Removing two sections
I removed two sections on "White House drug control" and "NY Times anti-US videos" as there is no assertion made as to what these two particular occurrances are notable in the history of YouTube. --ZimZalaBim talk 16:06, 22 March 2008 (UTC) todo friskf vfrrsl fe —Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.91.251.162 (talk) 17:50, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
Recent Commercialization?
Is it just me or has Youtube stepped off the deep end lately? It seems you can no longer avoid shifting through thousands of huge corperation advertisements. Whether it be the massive video advertisements in the front, the ads along the side that push down the video descriptions, or the new Pre & Post Video ads... Oh, and dont forget the in-video ads.... (***UNSIGNED***)
It's actually gotten even WORSE - now you not only have side ads, but there's an average of 1 ad on the video itself for every 90 seconds of length! THEN there's google's deletion of part of the policy, so now commercial ads are no longer forbidden - Search for videos from your city and specify upload date, and you'll see it's flooded with videos from realtors and car dealerships (many using multiple accounts to upload the same exact videos) hawking houses and cars!

Separate article?
Why is there a seperate article on the history of youtube? Shouldn't this information be put on the article for youtube?206.248.167.220 (talk) 21:36, 9 December 2010 (UTC) In 2000 we sent a proposal for "Viewster" to Garage.com. They asked for a detailed business plan and technical plan. We renamed to YouTube and submitted. We calculated the business should be started in 2005 due to lack of high bandwidth connections. Much, if not most of what YouTube did, was in our original proposal. We also sent it to a few other Venture Capitalists. Caveat Emptor, VC's are what they are!

Untitled section
Hi i hope someone can help ,
i am an expert on the history of youtube. I was there since the early days under another username at the time. I would like to correct some inaccuracies [ but dont know how] in the dates regarding when youtube first opened and allowed its first uploads to the public ( april 23rd 2005) although the the first few uploads were done by staff members i can assure you, many within the first 20 were not staff.. and were not related to youtube at all, some were friends of youtube workers and word spread quickly BUT anyone could of coame across the site after April 23 2005 and signed up for an account to uload as the acreen shots from the internet archive clearly show. . They were all uploaded before the supposed public preview in "june 2005" the evidence can be seen here as i archived all 20 videos and i stil maintain this archive for historical purposes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uImk2RgCq_U Many arguments are started over specific dates in the comments of this video with over 3.2 millions views
These are the video in order of date. Unfortubaly i didnt have the forsight to write down upload dates and many the links are non working or had to be replaced with re-uploads of the originals .
We CANNOT loose this portal to the past as youtube changed how we watch videos on ther internet. and it only been 11 years and these historical facts are already under assualt.

HTML5 and Flash
Maybe there should be a mentioning in the article that YouTube used flash as standard player for years but since 2016 adapted HTML5 as standard for most browsers(I think only newer Firefox versions are exceptions but cant provide if its true). For IE11 this is true, even using compability mode will not change back to Flash. However there is a way you can switch between HTML5 and Flash still and older browsers or Operating systems with browsers not supporting HTML5 will use Flash , which I tested recently. --2A02:8388:4181:5600:5D03:299:2F4B:B5E6 (talk) 03:44, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

There are 3 changes I want to be done:
1) Could somebody add at:2005 text:"June - comments"
so that it says, "June - Comments" to the template to the right underneath History_of_YouTube#Growth_.282006.29, since YouTube implemented commenting on June 14, 2005 (hence the first comment, "LOL!!!!!!!"), even though YouTube was launched to the general public on April 23, 2005 (1 ½ months prior)?
Edit/update:
2) Could somebody also add at:2013 text:"November - Merger with Google+"
into the template, so that it says, "November - Merger with Google+" in the template to show when Google+ merged with YouTube?
3) And could you capitalize the "t" in YouTube in both at:2015 shift:($dx,-15) text:"November - Youtube Red launches"
and at:2016 text:"February - Youtube subscription service"
as well? 173.73.227.128 (talk) 03:37, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

The section that beings "google aims to" and goes on to talk about competing with Daily Motion can be cited with this article: [1] but the statement could be made more clear if it said "YouTube aims to," as Google owns YouTube and that's where the competition lies. Not to be rude or anything but there is a small grammatical error in the first paragraph. When the date is mentioned, it would be better to put it as so; Monday, February 14, 2005, at 9:13 p.m, instead of Monday, February 14, 2005 at 9:13 p.m.
So sorry if this offends you...

Facebook info link to YouTube videos pulls the head from 'History of YouTube' article why not the 'YouTube' article
The page head of [of YouTube] has a very pronounced product placement for PayPal while the page head on YouTube has a more dry and commercial selection of information.
I wonder if the History of YouTube page has been created to push the product placement into the minds of everyone who clicks the info link on a Youtube video on a FaceBook wall?
Could we move the PayPal name on the History of YouTube page just a bit further down so it does not look like Wikipedia has been subverted for covert marketing.

TLDR: Change citation 12 from "https://phrasee.co/the-history-of-youtube/" to "https://web.archive.org/web/20200925140821/https://phrasee.co/the-history-of-youtube/".
[12] points to a Phrasee article that has been removed, and now redirects to an unrelated "History of Email" article. There is an archive.org capture of the article from 25 Sep 2020 that could be used instead.

Section move proposal
I propose that section Creators be moved to YouTuber. These sections are more related to the topic of YouTuber than this page. I would also support some material remaining here if it is relevant to the history of YouTube and can be incorporated into the rest of the article. However, I think this section should mostly be moved to YouTuber. Alduin2000 (talk) 13:35, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
- support This makes sense. The "creators" section is about YouTube content creators, which is what a YouTuber is. I think that the "history of YouTube" article should still link to the YouTuber article because there is no separation of the community and the platform, but as the community has its own article, content about the community goes there. Blue Rasberry (talk) 14:03, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
- Support Most of this article is related to YouTube's history as a company. With that in mind, some of the earlier material related to advertising and the Partner Program could be integrated elsewhere in the article, but I think that YouTuber is definitely a more relevant place for the rest of the section. Puhala,ny (talk) 03:32, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
- Support I think that the section should be trimmed to being about YouTubers historical possibility of making money and not about individual YouTuber. Spannerjam (talk) 09:52, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
Given that there is unanimous support for this so far and no new contributions have been made to the discussion for a couple of weeks, I'm going to move the content from this section to YouTuber, retaining and incorporating relevant information on this article as well. On the table in the Internationalization section of this article, there are three missing countries (Venezuela, Papua New Guinea, and Bangladesh), even though I don't know the exact date of when they were added to YouTube. Bengali also needs to be removed from the list of languages that don't have their own country version on YouTube. ConnerMiner (talk) 19:12, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 11:33, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- True… I'll be more specific about what needs to be changed. In the Internationalization section, the Countries with YouTube Localization table should be changed to add these at the end:
Venezuela | Spanish | ? | |
Papua New Guinea | English | ? | |
Bangladesh | Bengali | ? | Last location |
- Right below this, the sentence "…including Amharic, Albanian, Armenian, Bengali, Burmese, Khmer, Kyrgyz, Laotian, Mongolian, Persian and Uzbek…" should be changed to remove Bengali. ConnerMiner (talk) 17:44, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

Question
How do people get the dates for the Internationalization section of the article, especially when there are no news articles explaining when YouTube launches a localized version of their site for another country? Because I noticed that many of the later countries, such as Costa Rica and Liechtenstein, have dates mentioned despite there being no announcements of them getting local versions of YouTube (at least as far as I'm aware). Also, Cambodia and Laos recently got local versions of YouTube, which I noticed yesterday, but again, no announcements marking the exact date. ConnerMiner (talk) 12:31, 25 August 2022 (UTC)
