Major-General Simon Charles Hetherington, OMM, MSC, CD was a Canadian Army officer who served as the commander of the Canadian Army Doctrine and Training Centre, 3rd Canadian Division, and the 2nd Regiment, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery. [1][2]
Education
Hetherington holds a Bachelor's degree in political studies and a Master's in strategic studies.
Military career
Hetherington joined the Canadian Armed Forces as an artillery officer, where he would serve in Germany and regiments across Canada.
He also was apart of the UN Peacekeeping in Cyprus, and deployed to Bosnia as part of the Implementation Force.
He serve in Afghanistan on multiple tours where he would command the Kandahar Provincial Reconstruction Team (KPRT) and as the deputy commander of Joint Task Force Afghanistan.[3]
He was made the commander of the 3rd Canadian Division based out of Edmonton in 2016.[4]
In 2017, he was promoted to Major-General and was made the commander of the Canadian Army Doctrine and Training Centre.[5][2]
He retired from the Canadian Armed Forces in 2019.
