Thomas Haney Secondary School is a public high school in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada, under the authority of School District 42 Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows. Athletic organizations within the school are known as the Thomas Haney Thunder.

This school is incredibly unique because of its self-directed learning style, where students have set class blocks during the school week and free blocks to independently work. The students at Thomas Haney learn time management skills as well as learning how to balance their school, work, and social lives. [2] This kind of unique structure often tends to attract visitors from around the world, and many schools following the lead of Thomas Haney. [3]

Clubs

School clubs include the Model United Nations Club, an ice hockey program, the Student Council, the Gardening Club, the eSports team, and the FSO.[citation needed] The Model United Nations club allows students to partake in numerous United Nations simulations across the year. Several Thomas Haney students were award winners.[4] The FSO (fruit salad organization) is led by Scott Mccafferty but is primarily student-run. It is the GSA (gay-straight alliance) and acts as a safe space for the queer students of Thomas Haney. The FSO hosts a variety of events at Thomas Haney Secondary school, and will often work alongside the student council. The eSports team is run by Mark Biggar and Todd Goodman. The two teachers, along with an arsenal of students, host a LARP (Live Action Role Play) at the school annually.[5]
