Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School is a public charter school located in Midland, Pennsylvania, about 35 miles (56 km) northwest of Pittsburgh. It enrolls students from school districts in Beaver, Allegheny, Washington, Butler, and Lawrence counties.
”LPPACS” enrolls students in grades 7-12, offering seven “majors”: five artistic majors (Theatre, Music, Dance, Media Arts, and Writing & Publishing), as well as Pre-Law and Health Science.
The school is run by a seven-member board of directors that appoints the school's administration, which consists of a CEO, Principal, Vice Principal, Director of Curriculum, and Business Manager.
History
Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center is built on the same plot as Midland's former Lincoln High School. Lincoln High closed in 1987 after the collapse of the local steel industry led to a steep population drop in Midland. As a result, the town became increasingly depressed, and Midland Borough School District, along with town leaders, initiated the construction of the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center, which also houses the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School.
During the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting need for changes to public education to accommodate isolation and quarantine guidance from the CDC, the school and its attached Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center instituted innovative quarantine and testing policies, as well as novel technological initiatives to provide continuity and consistency for its students and performers alike.
Extracurriculars
The district offers a variety of clubs, activities and sports.Sports are part of the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (Class A) and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association. The sports offered are: men's basketball, men's and women's golf and women's volleyball. Lincoln Park has won the WPIAL Men's Basketball championship in 2014, 2018, and 2019 (2018, 2019 in Class 3A).
The clubs/organization the school offers includes: Student Council, Environmental Club, National Honor Society, BatCat Press, The Siren, and Humanitarian Club.
