Dada (also known as Dada the Appa) is a 2023 Indian Tamil-language coming-of-age romantic drama film written and directed by Ganesh K. Babu in his directorial debut.[3] The film stars Kavin, Aparna Das and K. Bhagyaraj. It is loosely a remake or inspired of Hindi Movie Aa Gale Lag Jaa (1973 film). The film focuses on the life of a young man who later adores the role of fatherhood and as a single parent.[4] The film sends out a stronger message indicating that parenthood is gender neutral.[4][5]

Dada was released by theatrically on 10 February 2023 and received highly positive reviews from critics and audience, and was a commercially success at the box-office.[3][6]

Plot

Manikandan and Sindhu are final-year college students and are in a relationship. However, Sindhu gets pregnant, and their lives change. Manikandan asks Sindhu to abort the baby but she refuses.

They both rent a house and live there. Due to Manikandan's drinking problem, he mistreats Sindhu by not paying attention to her and not caring about her. After Sindhu had given birth, Manikandan reaches the hospital to see just his baby there, and Sindhu missing.

It came to his attention that she had ran away somewhere far. Thus, caring for the baby, Manikandan names his baby Aditya and raises him to be a gentleman.

After a few years, Manikandan was searching for a new job. When he finally landed a job, he met Sindhu in the same company and knew she was the manager of the company. He was very scared to work at the office at first but he started to feel ok about going to the office.

One day, Manikandan brought Aditya to his office. When Sindhu meets Aditya, Aditya tells her that Manikandan is his father, which meant that Aditya was her son. After realizing it, she went to talk to Manikandan. When he asks about why she left the baby despite him asking him to abort the baby but her refusing it, she replied that her parents had lied that the baby had died and she thought it was due to Manikandan's irresponsible behavior.

They 3 then reunite together as one family. Even though Manikandan did not want to ever talk to Sindhu again, fate had other plans.[7]
