Hello,
I'd like some explanation for the deletion of page "Motifs in William Hope Hodgson's Fiction." The log says "homework, aka closing prod." This was certainly not homework, and deletion broke dozens of references to this page from five different pages. Please restore it, or at least let me access the text so I can incorporate some of it elsewhere. Thanks.
...thanks for the speedy undeletion... I will merge this content elsewhere.
...followup: I have moved the content, page can be deleted as far as I'm concerned. Thanks, Paul.

R' Aharon Leib [however you spell it]
I see that you have been involved in the repeated movings of Aharon Leib Shteinman. It happens that the most common spelling of his name is Aharon Leib Steinman - you can check Google. I just want to make sure that I'm not the only one for whom this is an obvious decision. Kol tuv, DLandTALK 21:20, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, then - let's try to build consensus. I have posted at Talk:Aharon Leib Shteinman. --DLandTALK 22:16, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
William Cohen
Hi Crazy Russian - how is everything? Could you help resolve a dispute before it goes to arbitration? Back in August I took a photograph of former Secretary of Defense William Cohen. It's a good photograph; he had just written a fiction novel. I also took some photographs of he and his wife Janet Langhart. They liked the photographs so much they wrote to tell me so; Janet Langhart even said she was glad I was able to supply an updated photograph of her husband to replace the goofy Department of Defense photograph found on his page. I still have these e-mails.
BCV, another editor, is insistent that we keep all the Department of Defense photographs on every page of every former Secretary of Defense. His argument is it creates consistency. My argument is that if an editor has a decent updated photograph they are willing to release that an updated photograph should go on an updated encyclopedia page. Another user on August 22nd also kept this change (though he moved the photograph of Cohen and Langhart down to the bottom - with which I agreed).
I've asked for other editors on the page to comment, but to no avail. Cohen is not particularly old; under BCV's reasoning, Wikipedia will forever keep a 1997 photograph up. I don't think it makes a lot of sense, especially since the man is now in a new phase of his life and continues to work.
Can you help to arbitrate this? I'm a bit tired of the revert war. Thanks for any help. --DavidShankBone 22:28, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for weighing in - much appreciated. --DavidShankBone 22:45, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
Hi Crz, would you mind reverting this back to the pre-3RR version? It's currently protected on Chussid's version with the link to the personal website. Cheers, SlimVirgin (talk) 22:48, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
- No, I am not going to do that. You may very well be right, but I am not editing the protected page crz crztalk 23:05, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
- You protected it. :-) It's quite normal to revert to a pre-3RR version before protecting a page, because otherwise the protection rewards the violator. But it's up to you; I don't want to interfere with your admin decisions. SlimVirgin (talk) 23:13, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
- It would be tantamount to joining the editwar. Figure it out, ask some nonjews for input on whether the links are up to WP:EL, and then we can all remove it together once it's unprotected. crz crztalk 23:15, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

- As I said, it's up to you, but it is not tantamount to joining the edit war; it is perfectly normal to revert to a pre-3RR version before protecting. I'm also not sure what your "nonjews" comment means. This has nothing to do with Jews or non-Jews. SlimVirgin (talk) 23:21, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm ... you're suggesting Jewish editors are inherently biased. SlimVirgin (talk) 23:26, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
- Well, first, lots of non-Jews hold pre-conceived ideas about Israel too, but more importantly, the dispute was about whether the link is to a reliable website or to a personal website, and being able to judge that has nothing to do with one's views on Israel. SlimVirgin (talk) 23:44, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
Hi, just looking for your advice on this (albeit trivial) one. You declined my CSD (I proposed non-notability) and suggested a merge back into the Uni article. Does that preclude me from listing in AfD? The only precedence is this prior AfD for another hall at the same uni. Loughboorough is my alma mater which is why I pay a passing interest. I don't have a vested interest other than these things aren't really notable for their own articles. Thanks for you time. --Steve (Slf67) talk 00:59, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Nicole Jordan Article
Being new to Wiki, I failed to Create a Page Name when typing an article about romance author, Nicole Jordan. So I created another page with that name, and copied the article into it. It was deleted. You won't believe this, but I messed up even more. Decided to create another account, calling it Nicole Jordan. As I began to type in the same info that was in the previous article, it went to speedy deletion and is now protected from further recreation. The article lists a short bio, her published novels, and a link to her web site. All I want to do is have the page name reflect her full name so it can be found by anyone searching for Nicole Jordan. How can I fix this mess? Your help will be ever so much appreciated. Thank you. Nicjord 08:14, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
Sirius Corporation
You have recently redirected the page posted about Sirius Corporation, an open source services company based in the UK, to Sirius Satellite Radio, a US-based internet radio provider.
They are different companies. Please amend your changes.
I believe there is no reason to remove or change this entry - the information provider was *not* commercially-oriented but an attempt to demonstrate Sirius Corporation's open source promotion and advocacy.
Thanks —The preceding unsigned comment was added by DogStar5000 (talk • contribs) 15:28, 9 January 2007 (UTC).
Sirius Corporation
Thanks for your message. Please tell me how a redirect to Sirius Satellite Radio is valid for a description for a company named Sirius Corporation.
If you don't like the entry then delete it. As it stands its likely to breech the Sirius Corporation trademark.
Also if Sirius Corporation is excluded then please advise on how its style is different to Canonical, the entry upon which it is based? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by DogStar5000 (talk • contribs) 15:37, 9 January 2007 (UTC).

Adminship
I've considered it from time to time, and been offered the possibility, but save for the occasional time when it would make dealing with a locked stub template or the like easier, I can't say that I'd really want the power, and I can't say that I'm that interested in dealing with the core administrator functions of anti-vandalism, etc. I may someday take up the gauntlet, but not now. Db-bio
- Hi there, The {{db-bio}} tag on that page created by cloud dreamer, well maybe I was wrong, at first I did not see it's encyclopedic significance but maybe I was a little quick and not giving it full though, and you probably were right. I'd just like to say that I'm sorry and that I do not want this to turn in to an argument as Wikipedia is meant to be a firendly place!

Hey, thanks so much for supporting my recent RFA. A number of editors considered that I wasn't ready for the mop yet and unfortunately the RFA did not succeed (69/26/11). There are a number of areas which I will be working on (including changing my username) in the next few months in order to allay the fears of those who opposed my election to administrator.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for your support over the past week. I've been blown away by the level of interest taken in my RFA and appreciate the time and energy dedicated by all the editors who have contributed to it, support, oppose and neutral alike. Inheritance Abuse
I'm trying to determine why this article was deleted. (Comments on my talk page were boilerplate, and I can't find any other help.) Inheritance Abuse is not a neologism. It is a part of the growing vernacular for people facing troublesome inheritance issues. It is not otherwise described in Wikipedia. "Inheritance Abuse" is also documented in an upcoming book authored by myself and another author. We also have a Web site (being updated) that discusses the topic. The term "Inheritance Abuse" also received a copyright 2003 in connection with our work. It is of public record. Please note that I made no advertisement for either the book or the Web site in my article. Please help me understand (1) why it was deleted, and (2) how I can improve the content or otherwise change it to restore the article. Thank you. Kaltenbach 21:49, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Kaltenbach

Deletion of Mikkal Morottaja article
Hello -
I'm writing to find out why you deleted the article about Finnish/Sami rapper Mikkal Morottaja on Nov. 16th, 2006. Your cited reason was a7 (lack of notability).
Here are at least two reasons why Morottaja should be considered notable:
(1) According to Wikipedia's official policy, he should be considered notable due to the presence of several independent newspaper articles about him. Most of them, of course, are in Finnish, but here's a smattering:
In English: http://virtual.finland.fi/netcomm/news/showarticle.asp?intNWSAID=55407
In Finnish: http://www.kaltio.fi/index.php?405 - profile http://virtual23.nebula.fi/~rumbafi/arkisto/03_05/Rumba03_05.pdf (BIG file) - another profile http://meteli.net/uutiset/2302 - details of a recent concert tour
That ought to be enough. These articles can also become the citations for much of the text that was presumably posted in the original, deleted article (which I came too late to find).
(2) He also satisfies criterion #6, "Has become the most prominent representative of a notable style or of the local scene of a city." In particular, he's easily the most prominent representative of rap music in the Inari Sami language, and the "local scene" of Ivalo/Inari. In fact, he's the most prominent representative of an entire language, and he might become personally responsible for preventing the Inari Sami language from dying if his revival efforts gather a foothold among the young people of his area.
I'm not logged in, but please forward your response to lastplace@fastmail.com.au Thank you.

Tall Firs page?
Hi, I noticed you nominated the page I created on the band Tall Firs. I'm new to creating articles on Wikipedia, so I went ahead and checked out the links on the deletion header, and I still believe the article is notable for the following reasons:
1. The band has had a record review published in Rolling Stone, the biggest music-based publication in America (the review is published here: http://www.rollingstone.com/reviews/album/11429885/review/12665488/tall_firs .) 2. The band's members have played in other noteworthy bands- the drummer, Ryan Sawyer, played in At the Drive In, a huge American band, and has played in groups such as Fiery Furnaces and TV On The Radio, huge indie rock presences in America. 3. The band is on a major American record label, Ecstatic Peace!, the record label of Sonic youth's Thurston Moore, a huge musical presence in American. The label contains other major indie presences in America, such as be your own PET! and Magik Markers. 4. The band is currently on tour with Emily Haines, a major artist both in America and Canada, whose latest self-released reached #28 on the Canadian charts.
I saw Tall Furs play this week, and was blown away by them, so much so that after the show I came to Wikipedia to try and find information on them- however, I found none. Earler today I saw a stub about the band that has since been deleted. On their tour with Emily Haines, they're going to be exposed to thousands of new fans across the country, and hundreds of them are probably going to come here to try to find information about the band, just as I did. The fact they opened for her when her performance was being simulcast on NPR won't help to stifle their popularity.
For these reasons, I'm going to delete the Article for Deletion header. Please respond on my talk page or the Tall Firs talk page if you feel they are still not notable. Thank you!

Nicole Jordan
Hey crz,
Could you please unsalt Nicole Jordan? It was originally created by User:Nicole Jordan and because of the username and some POV with the article, I speedied it assuming that it was an advert. and you (appropriately) salted it after she recreated it. As it happens, the user contacted me on my talk page and explained that she is NOT Nicole Jordan but was confused about the username. I instructed her to change her username (which she has done, she is now User:Anneb) and I also advised her to read WP:NOT and WP:NPOV. My impression is that she is honestly trying to contribute and the article should be unsalted. Further, Nicole Jordan is notable.

I followed the instructions to have to indicate permission had been granted (I am the author and owner of www.nzieh.org.nz) yet the page was deleted...I asked for help to see what I needed to do to prevent this from happening again with no reply.
I then recreated the page rewriting the information to avoid the 'copyright' issue and it seems to have been deleted without any warning/discussion. Am I wasting my time, so far without a doubt.

Desysopping Done
Regretfully, it is done: your account no longer has sysop access. I'm really, really sorry to hear about this. I remain confident that you might still reconsider in the near future. In any event, I wish you all the best in your new endeavors. :-) Cheers, Redux 13:08, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- So crz, I guess that means your last action as a sysop was to decline my speedy delete request... I'll try not to take it too personally :). Very best wishes for your future plans. WJBscribe (WJB talk) 13:14, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

A fond farewell (auf weidersehen, good bye)
Take care of yourself, my crazy friend. I wish for only the best for you; I certainly don't know you particularly well (as far as real life is concerned- I'm certainly more than familiar with your WP activities), but I know that you're a good guy. Allow me to say to you: It's been a pleasure and an honor. -- Kicking222 14:49, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Deletion Disagreement
Thank you for explaining that [re deleting of New Zealand Institute of Environmental Health]. The page I added was no different in nature to CIEH, APHA, Royal Society all of which (and many others like them) are on wikipedia. It was not promotional in nature (and is certainly not my organisation, it is an Incorporated Society with an Executive Board). It presented a factual description. I am curious by your phrase 'neutral topic' if you mean something that one does not have any personal knowledge of then your articles are going to be pretty unrealiable ;-) Are you the final word, or is there a process for appeal? Thanks again HealthProtect 08:22, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

- The additions to Wikipedia:Former administrators since the last time I wandered through is the most shocking and depressing thing I've seen since at least this morning's newspaper headlines. I suppose that I'm already too late to leave a welcome template on your new account, eh? ;p I'm glad that wiki will still be able to benefit from your experience. I hope you'll forgive some unasked for advice; if there's one thing I learned from my own de- and re-sysopping, it is that the "remove all items" option in your watchlist is a lifeline for a long-time editor, not a temptation to weakness. I wish you the best. - BanyanTree 20:57, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Newyorkbrad's RfA
This is to thank you publicly for your advice and support on my RfA, which closed favorably this morning. My gratitude and thanks for the confidence that the community has expressed in me are somewhat subdued by your departure as an active administrator, but I accept your decision and the reasons for it and wish you well. If ever you have any suggestions, comments, thoughts, requests, you know where to find me. Best regards, Newyorkbrad 17:29, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
Lemba article
Hey, I was wondering if you could assist with the Lemba article. For some reason the article has the Judaism tag on the right hand side, even though the Lemba are not officially Jewish. However since the Lemba have restrictions on intermarraige with non-Lemba and the fact that they carry the Cohen Model Haplotype means that they are indeed a separate ethnic group. Shouldn't the article have a tag then for an ethnic group? Also, why does the Abayudaya article have one, when they are not a separate ethnic group, rather simply a religious one. I would be very grateful if you or somebody else could assist. Thanks. Olockers 14:12, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Admin. Antics @ "Category:Jewish-American businesspeople"
Hello -- you may recall that in mid-December 2006 you and many others voted to undeleted "Category:Jewish-American businesspeople" which had been unjustly and swiftly deleted by a rogue administrator in early December 2006; proper debate/voting was not done and huge amounts of data was lost when this category was deleted, many of the people in that category losing their Jewish identity entirely because of this. This particular unjust category deletion happened in early December 2006, see: [3].
This unjust category deletion was later rectified when you along with others overwhelmingly voted to overturn the deletion and relist the category, see: [4]. However, at this time neither admins. nor others bothered to begin re-adding the names that had been lost/merged when the category was originally deleted.
However, the category was not immediately recreated -- it wasn't relisted until many-many days after it had been voted back in to existence, and I had to bug User:RobertG in order to get it relisted, see: [5]. Also, since that category's former data had already been entirely merged in to "Category:American businesspeople" it effectively meant that in order to rebuild the unjustly deleted category the people that had built it up over many months had to start from scratch since a list of the former names in the category were never provided so that users could re-add them. The category nor a list of the names that were formerly in it is no longer available, or this info is only accessible by admins.
Finally, even though the category deletion was properly overturned by you and others, it was renominated for deletion AGAIN on the 10 of January 2007 (only days after it had been recreated) -- it was then deleted 17 January 2007, with NONE of the people that had formerly voted to relist the category voting this time around; see: [6].
I am wondering if there is anything that can be done about this? Are you able to obtain a list of the names that were formerly in the category, or are only admins. able to do that? Can you or someone else try to have the category relisted? Is there a way to undelete the category again, given that it was deleted BOTH TIMES under rather dubious circumstances, with those that voted to undelete it the first time not even knowing to vote the second time or even that it had been renominated for deletion?
Thanks for any info/help that you can provide. --172.161.68.238 15:10, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:FENTY.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:FENTY.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Image:Bruce M. Buck.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Bruce M. Buck.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. - Tragic Baboon (banana receptacle) 15:41, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
