Stat assistance

If you please, Fran Sol (again the same, playoff stuff unduly in regular season): it's 10 apps for Real Oviedo, plus one in the 2013 Segunda División B play-offs; Villarreal CF B, 35 apps/15 goals in the 2015–16 Segunda División B, plus 2/0 in the 2016 Segunda División B playoffs; should you wish to update until end of last season, for SD Eibar he had 29/5 plus 2/0 in the 2022 Segunda División play-offs.

And yes, global warming is a serious serious threat (has been for several years), but unless we all row in the same direction i feel we're pretty much doomed :( Kind regards, take care! 193.137.135.2 (talk) 10:56, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Done! :-) Agreed but I'll try and keep my hopes up for something better than a catastrophe. It's necessary if want to be able to contribute to positive change. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 11:38, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

USAF B-2 Spirit stealth bombers

Sir Robby, Thanks for your guidance on quoting. I've rephrased to one simple sentence as we start the new section '2020-present'. I need help in formatting the two ref. since they work but are tagged as not formatted correctly:

2020-present

Two USAF B-2 Spirit stealth bombers flew to Queensland, Australia, on July 13, 2020, and two more joined them the next day. Watch the five-minute video. Thanks Again! -- AstroU (talk) 12:52, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

So what?

Please do not remove my comments or ivotes from Afd discussions [1]. I can repeat myself as much as I want. It is not an ivote. It is a comment. It's really not your concern and you are overstepping. This is the first time anyone has removed one of my contributions to an AfD. ---Steve Quinn (talk) 16:10, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

And if you notice I was being more specific with this comment as I specifically stated: "The link provided by Robby does not demonstrate coverage in reliable sources," And the comment by Lugnuts needed to be directly refuted imho. I should not have to explain my contribution at an AfD unless it is not relevant, contentious, or disruptive somehow. ---Steve Quinn (talk) 16:17, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

I can repeat myself as much as I want False. WP:BLUDGEON is a thing. Robby.is.on (talk) 16:18, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
Yeah. But I am not bludgeoning. If I did it alot more than this, then that would be bludgeoning. As I said, Lugnuts needed to be directly refuted and that comment was as good as any other that would essentially say the same thing. ---Steve Quinn (talk) 16:22, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
if you really think this is bludgeoning then take it to an Admin or AnI. But if you remove comments like that at AfD you are putting yourself in a bad position. If someone is bludgeoning the appropriate thing to do is report it. ---Steve Quinn (talk) 16:24, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
My revert may be have been overzealous and unwise and one duplicate comment may be not be considered bludgeoning. But the sentiment that somebody needs to be directly refuted is what leads to bludgeoning.
It happens that people make arguments that were previously rebutted and it's something I find annoying. But I don't think the solution is to copy-paste the same thing again in a different place. In this case, the point you made to Lugnuts was in the comment just above theirs so for anybody following the discussion it's easy to weigh up the arguments. Robby.is.on (talk) 16:38, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Football

FWIW, the Australian Football League was part of what was used to rebut my proposals months ago, concerning the 'other' AFL & the NFL. GoodDay (talk) 16:26, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

My kind fellow user, where do you think lies the statistical error (if indeed it is an error)? BDFUTBOL maths show 424 appearances, i just conducted a thorough web search (one of the refs i found now "rests" in the article's introduction) and it yielded tons of results saying 424. Why does the chart below say 425?

Attentively 2001:8A0:767B:9C00:85FA:DA74:C073:DB0 (talk) 01:42, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

The number of appearances for the 2020–21 season was off by one. I've corrected that. Now it all adds up nicely. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 08:35, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

Schwab video was a hoax

See [2] Doug Weller talk 08:49, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

@Doug Weller: Thanks. But remember, they are "more intelligent than all fact checkers". Robby.is.on (talk) 08:54, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
Lol! Doug Weller talk 08:58, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
sigh, I did not include a Schwab video nor link to a Schwab video. Hence you are finding a video to place upon my character.

August 2022

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

Special:Diff/1102124733: just wanted to let you know how excited I am to see "Tim Template" scoring for The Lionesses in the future. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 20:21, 4 August 2022 (UTC)

@Iggy the Swan: If you're going to trout me for every mistake of this kind, you'll run out of fish soon, I fear. :-D Robby.is.on (talk) 20:55, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
Just one will do for that. And I have only used a couple of trouts over the last few years so these things don't happen very often among the experienced editors. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 20:59, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
@Iggy the Swan: That's comforting, heh. It happens more than I'd like that I return to an article I've edited and find little mistakes I left the last time. Robby.is.on (talk) 21:02, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
Ouch, there's another one: Special:Diff/1102387624, I guess that proves my point. :-/ Robby.is.on (talk) 21:06, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
Oh dear oh dear, I just went through your contributions and it appears I made that mistake nearly two dozen times. Just one will do for that. The penny has dropped. Robby.is.on (talk) 21:10, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
Yes, though it seems like each time I have replaced the errors, I only included the surnames which that has been tweaked by you including Scott Arfield. Think everything is now resolved and everyone is happy. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 21:21, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
Yes, indeed. Happy editing, Robby.is.on (talk) 21:31, 4 August 2022 (UTC)

FORADEJOGO

News (to me, that is, maybe in no way to you!): peeking through Nuno Valente (footballer, born 1991), found out data has been archived and is now (again) available :)

Again, we will be able to source stats and find more (i.e. NT stuff, usually located at the top-right corner of the player's sheet), good day for WP and us crazy people that edit their football articles ;)

Kind regards, enjoy the rest of your week 2001:8A0:767B:9C00:2101:5A19:F525:E87D (talk) 16:29, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

That's great news! Thanks for letting me know. :-) Happy editing, Robby.is.on (talk) 18:10, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
Mm, are you sure? The website's not working for me and the link at Nuno Valente (footballer, born 1991) is an archived one… Robby.is.on (talk) 22:59, 4 August 2022 (UTC)

LOL! Was just about to write you on that one ;) Differs A LOT, some URLs work (updated as of 2020/21, when site crashed), others don't at all and others work but only showing stuff like 2015/16 or 2016/17! Am as baffled as can be, my wiki-friend...

capitalisation

Hi Robby - I hope you are doing well. Have a question for you. If the first letter of the second word is going to be scrutinised/not capitalised in player stats tables i.e. "State league" and "National cup", then why is Goal difference, goals for, and goals allowed still listed as GD, GF, and GA rather than Gd, Gf, and Ga in a league standings table? While matches played and points won are abbreviated as "Pld" and "Pts" respectively. Surely the abbreviations in tables should all follow the same capitalisation pattern? Thanks for your insight. Rupert1904 (talk) 18:28, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

@Rupert1904: You are probably right. I am not very familiar with tables using "GD, GF, and GA". I usually only edit players' table. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 21:07, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

Trouble with a user's ability to write clearly in English

I have been trying to edit some of the contributions[3] made by Iliochori2, and I'm having difficulty keeping up. I noticed that you addressed them on their talk page a year or so ago, and I'd appreciate some guidance on the best, most effective way to broach the issue of an editor's lack of ability to write clearly in English. There are dozens upon dozens of pages that either need complete revision/rewriting or simply should just be deleted to which the editor has added a large amount of unreadable, turgid content or created in full. Given that you and Drmies have both brought this up with the editor previously, I'm unsure exactly how to proceed here. I'd appreciate any guidance or help you can provide. Anwegmann (talk) 01:50, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

Hi @Anwegmann:. Yes, in summer 2020 I spent quite some time trying hard to help them edit constructively. Some things improved, others didn't. After a few months, frustration got the better of me and I disengaged. I'm glad Drmies is now involved. I don't feel like getting involved again, I'm sorry. But I very much hope it will get better and I'm thankful for your efforts. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 14:46, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

Jules Koundé

Hi Robby! How is Paris in Jules Koundé overlinking? It's not linked anywhere in the article, and it's not a country name. Paul Vaurie (talk) 18:02, 22 September 2022 (UTC)

Hey @Paul Vaurie:. MOS:OVERLINK isn't limited to countries. See the bulleted list there. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 18:16, 22 September 2022 (UTC)

As i imagined, they strike again at Carlos Delgado (footballer, born 1990) (as anon): 1 - player position again against WP:NOTBROKEN (and they do not ALLOW for "centre-back" to be written as position, for this nuisance only "defender" is allowed!); 2 - Segunda División again treated as LaLiga2, what gives?!

Of course it's them, M.O. is all there. Kind regards, keep it up 2001:8A0:767B:9C00:5CC6:C341:D13F:AD8B (talk) 18:33, 22 September 2022 (UTC)

Kyle Naughton

Per Talk:Kyle Naughton (which is worth a read), it has been established by user consensus that his birthday was on 17 November 1988 instead of 11. As a result I have corrected that error but probably needs some sort of pending changes person there to see if that can be accepted. It looked like the revert you did was automatically accepted (automatisch gesichtet) but looks like mine had not been. I understand not many Wikipedians who edit football articles would have heard of this person barring those who are fans of the clubs he played for. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 17:45, 1 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi @Iggy the Swan:, thanks for your message. Interesting to see that the troll did something constructive for once. Robby.is.on (talk) 18:36, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
Yes, like the maths error found on Neco Williams while under their old system of username choices. I also had a bit of cleanup on the other language versions which had the error, something I probably should have fixed once errors on external links get corrected. The German talk page of mine was rightly reverted though.
I can also see Johannnes89 had accepted the revision made by me with the ref included there so that's taken care of that. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 21:06, 1 October 2022 (UTC)

Mr. Statman

Hi there, all well? Werder back in the top tier, with good results thus far :)

Now, for the teamwork (two in a row for you): 1 - Samuel Sáiz, 2016/17 season, two of those 42 appearances are from the 2017 Segunda División play-offs; already with Girona, he did not have 3/1 in the 2020 play-offs as wrongly stated, but 4/1; last but not least; with Atlético Madrid B he had 12/5 in his first season, plus 2/2 in the 2014 Segunda División B play-offs. Copa del Rey appearances seem to be fine.

2 - Rodri (footballer, born 1990), here we go, easier than the first one: in his second year with Sevilla B, two of his 26 matches pertain to the 2011 Segunda División B play-offs. Also in this case, Spanish cup games are A.O.K.

Kind regards, many thanks for your time and assistance as always! 2001:8A0:767B:9C00:40C9:1958:E27A:C10F (talk) 00:27, 23 August 2022 (UTC)

Yes, indeed. The comeback win last weekend was increíble.
Samuel Sáiz: I've fixed the issues and more. I've also added two missing seasons with Real Madrid Castilla. BDFutbol and Soccerway disagree over the amount of appearances with Sevilla Atlético, I've gone with the former as I'd consider it more reliable for Spanish football.
Rodri: I've fixed that issue, didn't check for others.
Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 13:23, 24 August 2022 (UTC)

Mr. Statman

A no-brainer here, only ONE season. Five of his appearances in his first season at Albacete Balompié are from the 2017 Segunda División B play-offs, not the regular season.

Also, i feel this user, User:Dollarsign14, must clearly be kept in check: has already been blocked twice and warned over and over again, on several occasions i have seen them remove "centre-back" from a player's position and write only "defender" (surely, the former position exists in football no?); also, watch as they remove direct sourcing here (https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=V%C3%ADctor_Rodr%C3%ADguez_(Spanish_footballer)&diff=prev&oldid=1097755597 have seen it on several other articles). Not much i can do but revert/remove (and i will, believe me!).

Kind regards, cheers 2001:8A0:767B:9C00:B124:7F95:64C:8506 (talk) 16:41, 13 September 2022 (UTC)

Which player are we talking about? Víctor Rodríguez has not played for Albacete Balompié. Robby.is.on (talk) 21:11, 13 September 2022 (UTC)

Carlos Delgado (footballer, born 1990) (my gross bad, forgot to mention him where due! Apologies). I just used V. Rodríguez to show what an utter nuisance the aforementioned user is. --2001:8A0:767B:9C00:4D29:B420:DB60:95A8 (talk) 22:07, 13 September 2022 (UTC)

Done. Robby.is.on (talk) 22:42, 13 September 2022 (UTC)

Thanks! I do gotta say they also will revert you in the player position (the WP:NOTBROKEN thing), even though here i'm not here nor there (while centre-back is not incorrect, centre-back is surely not wrong no?). Another one needing corrections, just saw it now: Abel Gómez (also easy), only entries that need regular season/playoff separation are his first season with Cádiz CF (32/2 plus 4 in playoffs) and the very same thing at Lorca FC (14/0 plus 2/1 in playoffs). Copa del Rey appearances are correct.

Cheers again, keep it up! --2001:8A0:767B:9C00:D058:2571:AF72:BC2E (talk) 01:39, 14 September 2022 (UTC)

Done.
Regarding editors whose edits seem non-constructive to you: explain issues with their editing, inform them about relevant policies. If that doesn't work, warn them. If that doesn't help, report them.
Per MOS:NOTBROKEN, centre-back is preferable over centre-back. Robby.is.on (talk) 08:02, 14 September 2022 (UTC)

Another one for the "statistical teamwork" department! Pape Maly Diamanka; i'll do my bit providing you the data and you "attack" the chart...

Copa del Rey appearances are correct (at least up until that point, chart not including the last three seasons). Now, for the rest: 4 apps/1 goal at Sestao River Club belong to the 2014 Segunda División B play-offs (thus, 29/2 in regular season); he made 4 apps/1 goal for CD Numancia in the 2018 Segunda División play-offs, they have already been inserted in the chart but without any note.

Thanks for your time and help as always, enjoy the rest of your weekend! --2001:8A0:767B:9C00:809C:7E3C:81EB:A676 (talk) 21:50, 17 September 2022 (UTC)

Done. This season is shaping up to be a fun one with Athletic Bilbao. :-) Robby.is.on (talk) 22:00, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
If they get third or fourth i'll be delighted, for me R. Madrid is winning it all again this year. Motivation is the name of the game (some talented players can also help i "guess"), and they have that to spare right now!
Take care again :) 2001:8A0:767B:9C00:809C:7E3C:81EB:A676 (talk) 22:20, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
Yes, third or fourth place would be an exceptional achievement for Athletic. Robby.is.on (talk) 22:30, 17 September 2022 (UTC)

After a minor but due correction in the infobox, i bring you Ager Aketxe for the second time, if you will: 1 - three appearances in his first year with Athletic Bilbao B are from the 2013 Segunda División B play-offs (thus, 27/5 in the regular season); 2 - please add the Segunda División playoff apps with Almería (2 apps) and Eibar (2 apps/1 goal; Cádiz is already there).

Kind regards --193.137.135.5 (talk) 09:30, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

Done. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 09:57, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

Great (team)job man, as always! Now, after checking BDFUTBOL further, more Copa del Rey apps added :) --193.137.135.5 (talk) 10:34, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

Good catch! Robby.is.on (talk) 10:52, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

Group of Death

Hi: I've just noticed your work here. Thanks for that. I'd like to comment about this part (not your edition): "it is believed that he was the first person to use the term the "Group of Death", to describe their first round group with West Germany, Denmark and Scotland".

Apparently it's, more or less, "well referenced". But the truth is he wasn't the first to use it. Even in Spanish version says other thing, that he wasn't the first. Mexican sport journalists first used in 1970, and 1982. Check Group of death. You can find references there, but you can find more. Thanks in advance. 200.40.224.66 (talk) 17:43, 20 October 2022 (UTC)

Fabio Chiarodia

Hello! I just wanted to thank you for helping me correct and expand this page, I really appreciate it!

I'm only officially registered to Wikipedia since this summer, and I'm still learning how to use the various functions and add new information properly, so every type of advice I can get has immense value for me. : )

Cheers!

Oltrepier (talk) 11:51, 28 October 2022 (UTC)

@Oltrepier: Hi there. Thanks for reaching out and your kind words. You're welcome. You're doing a very good job at Fabio Chiarodia and elsewhere. :-)
I've been wanting to ask: How did you learn about Chiarodia? He is not a very well-known footballer. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 21:22, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
@Robby.is.on Oh, it's actually simpler than you might expect: I'm Italian, and I've been covering our youth national teams, among other things. So, I found out about Chiarodia because he's chosen to represent Italy, despite being born in Germany, due to his family's roots. And to be honest, he's been doing quite well, so far! Once he's played a few more league games, I'll be able to work on the article in Italian, too, since it.wiki has got different parameters.
And Germany has got quite a big Italian community, overall! : D
Anyway, thank you for your support: I hope I'll keep making progress with my contributions here. Oltrepier (talk) 09:19, 29 October 2022 (UTC)
@Oltrepier: it's actually simpler than you might expect Oh, I actually had no preconceptions beyond the fact that I suspected you're Italian like him. :-) Yeah, he's an interesting prospect.
The reasons why I've been following him closely and why I decided to create the article are that 1) he's from the city where I live – I've actually eaten ice cream at his family's ice cream parlour a few times – and 2) I support the club he plays for. ;-)
I'm sure you will. Keep up the good work! Robby.is.on (talk) 23:43, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
@Robby.is.on That's really interesting! : D
Good luck to Werder for the rest of this season, by the way. Oltrepier (talk) 09:28, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
Thank you! :-) Robby.is.on (talk) 10:42, 31 October 2022 (UTC)

Bolasie

The Rizespor editor has returned quite soon after the protection was removed. I have requested further protection. Eagleash (talk) 09:24, 17 November 2022 (UTC)

@Eagleash: What a nuisance. Thanks! Happy editing nonetheless, Robby.is.on (talk) 10:22, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
Hopefully the upcoming protection will be for a length of more than two weeks which won't affect us normal editors' ability to edit this page. I agree we should refer the anonymous user as an LTA even though they might not have had any user accounts. According to their website, it looks like they don't have the World Cup break like clubs from Arsenal to Huddersfield do in England so I forecast more of the same with other players. I think they are not in the top division by looking at the table. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 19:24, 17 November 2022 (UTC)

Not that i care much for it (in fact i actually think it looks nice from an aesthetic point of view; but it's against the guidelines), but the user that summarily reverted me (it WAS vandalism, simple as that. If i wanted to make baseless accusations i would say this guy does not want anyone to support the plight of - especially - women in Iran; of course, saying this without ANY proof at all, but then why the blanket removal?) in the article two or so hours ago has now reinstated the flag icons that you removed; not up for good, i tell 'ya...

Kind regards, cheers (and great conversation/interaction in the message above, the ones we should ALWAYS be having here)! 2001:8A0:7643:2400:9CC8:DA9C:3734:4A5B (talk) 21:58, 3 November 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for the kind words. Robby.is.on (talk) 22:07, 3 November 2022 (UTC)

You can clearly see how "well-intentioned" this user (Amirali313Taheri) is in Sá Pinto's page (and other articles i imagine). Today, he logged off and "contributed" anon, removing what the subject SAID IN A SOURCE and calling it "work sabotage and written nonsense"!!

Kind regards --2001:8A0:7643:2400:31E1:E92:75BC:56FE (talk) 19:14, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

I've warned the user, hopefully with a better knowledge that we generally can't use IP addresses and their user name at the same setting. Sometimes accidents with editing using IP addresses happen but looks like not in this case. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 21:41, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

Robby, hopefully all is well with you!

I ask of you the habitual (stat chart): would you mind checking this player's table please? Totals (and sub-totals!) seem way off. Kind regards 2001:8A0:7643:2400:1596:D54F:6A34:EA66 (talk) 16:24, 25 November 2022 (UTC)

Indeed, summary at I. Williams was indeed unnecessary/hysterical (but i insulted no one; and i arranged the display of the lastly-added source (The Guardian, it had an author) and you reverted me for no reason (i reinstated it - only that, the other improvements stayed - and apologised to everyone concerned in the edit summary). No worries if you do not wish to help out at Vitória, chart stays as it is.

Enjoy the rest of your Saturday! --2001:8A0:7643:2400:2CE4:AC43:63ED:75EC (talk) 22:36, 26 November 2022 (UTC)

 • Have no idea if you're still interested in cooperating with me (no reply in what directly concerns my request, a(nother) scolding instead), but still i ask: Bruma (footballer), can you please check the totals in the chart? They seem way off; plus, he appeared in 15 matches in three UEFA competitions last season for PSV, 5 apiece, scoring once in the UEFA Champions League and once in the UEFA Europa League - no goals in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Again, if you want to cease our interactions just say the word, so i'll stop wasting both your and my time and take my queries elsewhere. Kind regards --193.137.135.5 (talk) 14:24, 30 November 2022 (UTC)

I'm just very disappointed you are still behaving uncivil towards other editors. And what makes it worse is that you're downplaying the incivility. You don't have to be throwing out blatant insults to violate WP:CIVIL (though I've lost count the amount of times I've read "lousy vandal" – in all caps usually). I think if you weren't an IP you would have long received an indefinite block. Robby.is.on (talk) 21:33, 30 November 2022 (UTC)

OK Robby, i know it's way against the guidelines, but a person that comes here to make fun of our hard work (the "lousy vandals") deserves respect and kindness for vandalising pages ON PURPOSE, is that what you're implying? For people that are just starting out (the "newbies"), to be met with such idiotic summaries is very discouraging, i'm not downplaying that and i don't have any excuses, but for vandals i don't have an ounce of respect, and i would imagine you don't also; i'm very ashamed of my summaries towards the former, towards the latter i can't say that i am.

Still no reply to direct messages (and i still do not know if you want me to stop writing here, i respect you a lot so i would not go against your wishes). No worries, if Mr. Vitória's and Mr. Bruma's chart are to be corrected i do not care anymore. Take care --2001:8A0:7643:2400:6415:E43C:7E00:C8FB (talk) 21:46, 30 November 2022 (UTC)

Re: "image_size" parameter

Hello! I'll start using "upright" instead of image_size. Thank you for the info!!

Association football culture

Hello, Firstly, Thanks for you polishing of Shirt swapping article. I think that you are knowledgeable about football and English native speaker.

Can I ask a favour?

My English is poor. So can you polish Commemoration section in Association football culture

Anyway Thanks Footwiks (talk) 12:05, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

@Footwiks: I have tried to improve the wording a little. You will need to add WP:inline citations to the content, otherwise it might be considered WP:original research and then removed. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 12:13, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for your help and your advice. I'll find relialble source and add them soon. Kind regards.Footwiks (talk) Footwiks (talk) 12:24, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Teamwork Barnstar
You deserve a barnstar for using the sources found in the Craig Skinner AfD to improve the article!

Too often, lots of sources are found for an article at AfD but the article is not improved. I know it's not compulsory to add the sources to the article, but it always seems a shame to me when it doesn't happen.

So, well done for doing the work and making improvements. MarchOfTheGreyhounds (talk) 12:38, 13 October 2022 (UTC)

Thanks a lot, @MarchOfTheGreyhounds:. That's very kind of you. :-) it always seems a shame to me when it doesn't happen Indeed, that thought has often crossed my mind. Robby.is.on (talk) 18:44, 13 October 2022 (UTC)

Publisher vs. work

Replying your question, i'd say to avoid making everything look like a newspaper; i seriously do not understand why publisher is often "corrected" to website, then the configuration looks exactly like that of a newspaper (tilted). If you think about it, ALL stuff in the world we get our sources from is a website (i.e. WWW.ABOLA.PT is the website of the newspaper A Bola), i just try to at least make that differentiation (newspapers tilted, the other stuff not).

Attentively 2001:8A0:7643:2400:3C65:A058:69B4:9EFD (talk) 17:36, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

I'm not sure italic formatting is intended for the differentiation you make. Quoting style guides of two of the most famous citation styles, MLA and APA style:
 • MLA guide: "Italicize titles if the source is self-contained and independent. Titles of books, plays, films, periodicals, databases, and websites are italicized"
 • APA guide: "According to the manual, italics are appropriate for: titles of books, journals and periodicals, webpages, films, and videos […].
So whether you consider Reuters a website or newspaper is beyond the point.
Reuters is a news agency. Template:Cite news#Publisher has this to say:
 • for the "publisher" parameter: "Omit where the publisher's name is substantially the same as the name of the work […]"
 • for the "agency" parameter: "Do not use for sources published on the agency's own website; e.g. apnews.com or reuters.com; instead, use work or publisher".
Taken together, I think that means "work" should be used for Reuters and other agencies in cases where no newspaper is involved. If a newspaper uses content from a press agency, use "work" and "agency". Robby.is.on (talk) 19:32, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

Ennis Hayes article link corrections

In the edit done for Ennis Hayes Argentina was substituted for Argentine. How is this based since I have on several occasions run into other editors that do not recognize truncated links as national names and instead nationality such as turning Argentina into Argentine? I imagine this is based on the assumption that when considering "grammar" it sounds right whereas it is a title that should be translated directly from the original language which can either be the nation's name or nationality. Can you provide any feedback on this so that I can advise others when they revert.104.35.235.197 (talk) 21:44, 19 December 2022 (UTC)

@104.35.235.197: Hi. My change was the other way around, from "Argentine national team" to "Argentina national team". I don't recall where this was last discussed but it's been common practice for a long time. You could search the Talk page archives at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 22:31, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
There continues to be opposition about 4 claiming that there is no consensus. What can be done to establish consensus? Anything you suggest would be appreciated.2603:8000:D300:D0F:A4A9:1E1:30A5:4340 (talk) 20:21, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
I do think we do have a consensus. This is indicated by the fact that a) the Wiki pages are called "Argentina national football team", not "Argentine national football team", b) "Argentina national team" is usually used when piping, "Argentine national team" is not. Here are two newer discussions I found: from 2009, from 2013 with explanations given. Robby.is.on (talk) 20:32, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
So at what [oint can any designation be changed and not get into a 3 revert situation? This reverting is coming from someone when it was justified thr change the other contributor's response was a rather defensive "By Whom?". The reverts alwas seem to involve football players etc that are English based although they may be involved in Spanish language countries.104.35.235.197 (talk) 03:47, 22 December 2022 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you so much for being kind Robby. All I really asked for. Clearly people don’t want me on the website, I’ll probably leave soon, (today or tomorrow) because of it. Just wanted to try and help make footy articles on Wikipedia better, but I’m obviously not doing a very good job, anyway thanks so much for the kind words :) Joseph1891 (talk) 16:41, 8 January 2023 (UTC)

You're welcome, Joseph. Clearly people don’t want me on the website There were unfriendly comments towards you at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football which the editors in question have explained with interactions at other articles. I don't know what happened between you and them.
But know that I appreciate your effort at reaching a consensus about Honours sections at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football and that I have seen good work from you elsewhere. Keep it up! Robby.is.on (talk) 16:54, 8 January 2023 (UTC)

Revert

By mistake, canceling my (incorrect) edit, the numbers in the bibliography changed; it happened by mistake. Could you rollback by keeping the caption changes (for MOS:CAPTIONS)? Frank Lampard. JackkBrown (talk) 14:49, 9 January 2023 (UTC)

Hi JackkBrown. I reverted your MOS:CAPTION change, the full stops are correct. With that revert, the article is back to the revision from Saintandy7. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 19:01, 9 January 2023 (UTC)
