I am still quite new at this but hope to get better. Still not sure about a lot of things so I guess I will play it all by ear and do lots of reading to catch up. Thalia

Evanescence article stuff to do

[edit]

Hey Childzy,

You and I have recently been collaborating on the Evanescence talk page. I'd just like to praise you for being bold and getting several Evanescence-related chores done. If you need any assistance, for example with creating Evanescence discography or changing references to their genre of music to alternative rock, just let me know and I'd be more than glad to help out. —Lantoka ( talk | contrib) 07:47, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome. I'll look over everything sometime this weekend and see if I can be of further assistance. Regrettably I haven't been on much lately due to university finals, moving home, then starting my new job, but the weekend is finally here and I'll have substantial time to catch up on Wikipedia. Keep me informed. =) —Lantoka ( talk | contrib) 20:13, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, but, why have you deleted the info I added? It's real and i can prove it, i have pics of the cover, back, inter and the CD —eacz12

Marc Pugh thanks

[edit]

Thanks for the help with the references on the Marc Pugh article, I'm trying to make a really good, in depth article and it needed referencing like other good articles. I'll see what you did and play about with it in the sandbox, so again thanks for the help.--Childzy 15:22, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. You basically put the website/book/newspaper you're referencing in tags like this <ref>www.example.com</ref> and then <references/> at the end where you want the references to be printed. See m:cite.php for more detail.--Cherry blossom tree 22:29, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, the article was not stable so I removed it from the GA list, it will have to be renominated. Second of all, please review the oldest nominations on the GA nomination page since it is fairer for those who have been waiting for an assessment or a review of their article the longest. Lincher 14:08, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Poutsa

[edit]

The user who'd made it had just vandalised an article and borderline-vandalised a few others, so I was mopping up. If you think it's worth an article, go ahead. However, is there anything that wouldn't be handled better at wiktionary? Morwen - Talk 14:36, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

childzy, you actually gave user_talk:207.165.35.157 a {{test5}} warning, which tells the person that they have been blocked. please don't use this in the future if you are not an administrator. i replaced it with a {{bv}} warning since the person had actually been vandalizing. thanks, --Alhutch 17:34, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding this edit. You (accidentally I'm sure) deleted a large part of the article when trying to edit the image. I've reverted for now, so if want to doing the image edit again feel free, but be careful not to remove any valid content (use show preview and/or show changes button before saving to check). Cheers, Petros471 18:17, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Arghhh crap I'm sorry it keeps doing that to me on the Evanescence article, I think its to do with FireFox. I always show previews but generally to see if what i did worked, not to see if I deleted the article, again my apologies.--Childzy (Talk|Contribs) 18:21, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's ok. I heard something about a bug with Firefox and the Google (think it was google) toolbar being installed caused a bug that has that effect. I sometimes edit using Firefox (usually Opera), but don't have any extra toolbars so never come across that problem personally. Petros471 18:24, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Childzy,
Sorry to bother you, but I've updated the captions on the edits to make it perfectly clear which version you support. Please update your vote and state which version you support. Please use the naming located under the main caption in bold, large text. Thanks, --Fir0002 09:05, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that there is no reason to italicize All Music Guide in the professional reviews section of the album infobox. Only the names of magazines should be italicized (see the archived discussion at WikiProject Albums and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (titles)). Jogers (talk) 23:46, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for asking, how's this: Image:Towneley Hall edit.jpg? I didn't want to go too far with the brightening as it brings out the noise too much. --Fir0002 07:46, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Fake Sound of Progress

[edit]

Hi, you're probably sick of me by now but I gotta ask this. You made articles for all the lostprophets singles today (I just made the last two), but the links you made designated the fake sound of progress page to The Fake Sound of Progress (song). I conformed with this for now, but is the (song) bit necessary? The Fake Sound of Progress is just a redirect to thefakesoundofprogress, so cant The Fake Sound of Progress be used for the single? The topline dabs i put on the pages can stay, allowing access to the page they're not on. Is there a problem with doing this? U-Mos 16:17, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed *merges pages* BTW thanks for finishing them, i started getting tired.--Childzy talk contribs 18:12, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No probs, they were easy pages to be my first! I'm going through the links to the (song) version now. Btw, I made a couple of changes to that lovely lostprophets template you did - you managed to get lee's name wrong! I also removed ilan rubin and several links that redirect to lostprophets or go nowhere. I won't take offence if you revert it, but i think that's how it should be. U-Mos 18:50, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted some things, such as the Red links bacuse they are there so people can create article, i have also been working on the band members artciles. and BTW who is ilan rubin, is he the drummer??? --Childzy talk contribs 18:53, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AH I keep removing red links so oops! Personally I don't think band memeber articles are a good idea as none of them have done anything outside lostprophets. Ilan Rubin drums for the band, but he is not OF the band. He's not in their promo pics, or listed as a band member in Liberation Transmission etc. Therefore it is believed (by me) that he shouldn't be in their infobox or template or suchlike. U-Mos 18:59, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Something else! IF band pages are deemed necessary, Richard Oliver should be Jamie Oliver, as for some reason that's what he calls himself. This will probably cause many chef-related problems, but that's how it should be I think. U-Mos 19:08, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm it would cause big problems but if you are sure thats his name i will move it. --Childzy talk contribs 11:06, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am sure about jamie oliver and ilan rubin U-Mos 17:18, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yep agree, good work. BTW Just wondering but who is lostprohpets current drummer??? Childzy (Talk|Contribs) 18:20, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I try! They don't really have a drummer: Mike Chiplin left over a year ago, josh freese drummed on the new album and ilan rubin is currently touring with them, but he is not a member of the band. U-Mos 19:21, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Stu richardson.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Stu richardson.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 19:09, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just wanted to point out that Ilan Rubin did do two tracks on Liberation Transmission and he is thanked, along with Josh Freese.

Fair use images in userspaces

[edit]

I've removed the fair use images of a football team's logo from your userspace. Sorry, but such images can't be used outside articles, for the reasons in WP:FU. You might want to resubmit your nomination to WP:ESP/U. Actually, as I've nominated my own userspace there, I hope you won't take this as sabotage ;-). But someone else would have had to if I didn't. --Sam Blanning(talk) 19:15, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

*cries* my beloved burnley badge *cries more*. you did what you have to do
what about if i took a photo of the badge i have on my shirt?? Then it would be a self-made image thus allowing me to use it hmmm? Or what about the fact the bagde is more than 100 years old, wouldnt that make it be in the public domain?? Please get back to me --Childzy (Talk|Contribs) 19:27, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry - to quote Wikipedia:Image use policy, "copyright is generated only by instances of "creativity", and not by the amount of labor which went into the creation of the work". If you take a photo of a logo, the creativity, and therefore the copyright, still lies with the logo's creator. --Sam Blanning(talk) 19:58, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Should have read the whole post... I'm not sure about the 100 years thing. The image's page currently claimed fair use rather than public domain, so I removed it based on that. Maybe ask on Wikipedia:Request for copyright assistance whether the image is actually in the public domain? --Sam Blanning(talk) 20:00, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Karbassiyoon.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Karbassiyoon.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yonatan (contribs/talk) 09:05, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Boudin - Boudinage redirection

[edit]

hey Childzy!

Thx for your welcome message! how is it possible to redirect links? There are two articles, Boudin and Boudinage. The Boudin article deals with sausages exclusively. But Boudin is also a term for a special geological feature. So we need a disambiguation page, I guess. Furthermore it would be reasonable then to redirect the Boudin (geological) to Boudinage. I hope you understand, what I mean! EndoMax 11:44, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Davidgale.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Davidgale.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 18:48, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wade Elliot comment

[edit]

Hey, no problem. I didn't think your response was rude back then at all! Actually, to be honest, what I did in the article was rude, and was also probably against Wikipedia policy. I was just staring at the article having no clue what it was about and having no clue how to find out, and thought I'd be a little unorthodox to call attention to a problem that wasn't obvious to the article's authors. :) If I'd realized how new you were I probably wouldn't have done it at all, which makes me realize I should be more careful about such stuff. :)

Anyway, glad the comment is still giving you chuckles even now. :) Every so often I think it doesn't hurt to illustrate a problem by being funny, but I'm glad I didn't screw up and scare you off of Wikipedia or something. Jdavidb (talk • contribs) 13:25, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Generally, one would move the page instead of copy and pasting it. Additionally one should fix up any double redirects created by the new redirect. Ewlyahoocom 20:01, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For the record it couldn't be moved as both pages originally existed so i had no option but to merge them. Also i was planning to fix redirects, hadn't had time yet. thanks --Childzy ¤ Talk 10:01, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
When a move is blocked, generally one would request that an administrator move the page. For more info, see WP:RM. (And those double redirects aren't going to fix themselves.) Ewlyahoocom 04:37, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

External link, Bulls & Bears

[edit]

I am surprised you find a link to TipsTraders.com irrelevant or inappropriate. I am a frequent viewer of the show, and a daily visitor at tipstraders, a site that keeps track of the recommendations made on the show (among others). I would think that most readers and viewers would find that information usefull.

I was removing them per (section) the links add no encyclodpedic value to the articles --Childzy ¤ Talk 22:31, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Weird... there is no such requirement..?
9. Direct links to documents that require external applications (such as Flash or Java) to view the relevant content, unless the article is about such rich media. If you do link to such material make a note of what application is required.
Also
What should be linked says
"4. Sites with other meaningful, relevant content that is not suitable for inclusion in an article, such as reviews and interviews."

Well, there are plenty of deep links to actors on IMDB, which is quite similar to a deep link to Ben Stein on Tipstraders. I guess it is a matter of interpretation, and you are not about to accept a different opinion.
