Andre Martinez- (born Henry Martinez in 1955) in Brooklyn, New York.

André Martinez is a Brooklyn-born drummer, percussionist, and painter who comes from a family of musicians and artists. He began his career by participating in various drum ensembles and African- and Latin-Caribbean dance ensembles. Martinez then founded the Afro-Cuban drum ensemble El Monte, which performed concerts and radio shows throughout New York City. In the 1980s, he co-founded Pie Di Poi with Guilhermé Franco, Alyrio Lima, Don Suarez, Ricardo Torres, Ricardo Solis, Ronnie Burrage, and many others.

Martinez played with pianist legend Cecil Taylor from 1980 to 1992, performing in many concerts worldwide and appearing on several albums. He can be heard on Cecil Taylor's, "Music From Two Continents – Live in Warsaw Jamboree," in 2022. The musicians he collaborated with in this period included Jimmy Lyons, William Parker, Rashid Bakr, Brenda Bakr, Rev. Frank Wright, Glenn Spearman, Raphé Malik, Karen Borca, Thurman Barker, John Tchicai, Gunter Hampel, Tomaso Stanko, Enrico Rava, Evelyn Blakley, Carlos Ward, Tony Oxley, Diane McIntyre, Mickey Davidson, Lester Bowie, and others.

Martinez went on to perform with various groups and co-lead the free jazz ensemble Earth People with Doug Principato and Jason Candler. They produced six critically acclaimed albums and live videos with many of the free jazz greats of the time, including Mark Hennen, Karen Borca, Gunter Hampel, Francois Grillot, Rosie Hertlein, Sabir Mateen, Elliot Levin, DJ Firehorse, Brian Groder, Daniel Carter, Roy Campbell, Jeff Hoyer, On Davis, Jimmy Cruiz, Chris Forbes, Dan Gaydos, and others. Since 2018 he has been collaborating with Justin Frankel, Andy Omel in music projects with Yes, Exactly, Yes!.

Throughout his career, Martinez has established himself as a talented and versatile musician who continues to make meaningful contributions to the worlds of music and art.
