To Die For is the second studio album by South Korean songwriter, rapper, singer, and record producer B.I. It is scheduled to be released on June 1, 2023, by 131.[1]
To Die For is the continuation of B.I's half album Cosmos, and explores various stories and emotions of youth. The album comprises a total of 15 songs, including six tracks previously released in Cosmos and nine new songs featuring collaborations with rappers Big Naughty, Jessi, Kid Milli and Lil Cherry, and punk band Crying Nut.[2]
Background
On February 3, 2023, B.I's record label, 131, announced a change in his album release schedule for more effective message delivery. Instead of releasing Love or Loved Part.2 as originally planned, the label stated that B.I's second studio album would be released first in the first half of 2023, so as to express his take on "love" to a full completion. The second part of the Love or Loved project would be released later, which contains stories about "loved".[3]
Then at midnight KST on May 1, 2023, 131 released a teaser film, revealing that B.I's second studio album, titled To Die For, will be released on June 1 at 6PM KST. The teaser was dropped just hours after B.I 2023 Asia Tour [L.O.L: The Hidden Stage] concluded in Macau. The teaser features the album title written in motion on a typewriter and includes the quote "Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die today", which is attributed to American actor James Dean that has come to symbolize eternal youth.[1]
Release and Promotion
On May 3, 2023, 131 announced a special album promotion for To Die For, stating that B.I would hold offline guerrilla stage performances in various locations to personally introduce his new songs to fans before the official release. From May 7th until his comeback, the album will also be pre-released in several offline spots, where people can listen to the new songs in person.[4][5]
