Speedy deletion nomination of Heatmaster SS

Hello Userdk,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Heatmaster SS for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Julietdeltalima (talk) 21:24, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hyphenation of compound modifiers

You should review MOS:HYPHEN and revise this article accordingly to improve the article's chances of surviving a discussion of deletion. I will tell you that Wikipedia volunteer editors are swayed unfavorably by a lack of attention to copy-editing detail in articles that are, at best, tipping on the edge of non-notability. I don't mean to be snippy to you but I do this a lot and I want to give you an easy bit of advice that will in no way HURT the chances for retention of the article. Take care. Reply to your reasonable query

I'll be the first one to admit that it is difficult to jump into Wikipedia navigation; I'm a fairly well-documented non-moron and yet I muff stuff up here all the time and it is sometimes even mortifying. But here's the thing, which I try to explain to people on Wikipedia and even in real life all the time: Wikipedia isn't a search engine, or a professional directory, or a repository for information regarding all business endeavors in the known universe. I think a lot of folks get commanded by an employer of whatever nature to "write us up for Wikipedia" and don't realize that, even if it's "the encyclopedia anyone can edit," not everything passes the hurdle of WP:N or WP:SPIP. To the extent your article contains useful information regarding heating technology, terrific! but that belongs in appropriate existing articles regarding heating technology and not a brand-new article regarding some business entity. You might well be stunned at the number of new articles in any given hour that are submitted about random businesses that, while laudable and job-creating and profitable and delightful, don't warrant an encyclopedia article. In some measure my comment was based on the notion that a lot of people who write this type of articles are paid public-relations folks, or freelance writers, or others who have no interest in actually volunteering for Wikipedia and becoming part of the community and, at a bare minimum, assimilating the style manual. Articles written by such non-interested people stick out because they flagrantly transgress even the easy parts of WP:MOS. The only attention such articles draw are jaundiced, deletion-inclined eyes.

All that being said, if you really ARE a well-meaning writer/editor who wants to volunteer your talents for the wholesale betterment of the encyclopedia, rock on! Hats off! It is a fine way to spend tiny bits of extra time applying your OCD for the good of trivia buffs and other curious folks throughout the English-speaking universe! But the first thing you should do is spend the next few days geeking out on WP:MOS to assimilate the house style, which I am sure that if you are a well-meaning writer/editor you would do in the first instance upon entering any new editorial endeavor.

Again, all the best to you. Julietdeltalima (talk) 00:59, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Heatmaster SS requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Re: Scott Pulsipher reverts

Two things: mentioning the DOE IG report and its results could be, and I think is, WP:DUE for Pulsipher's article in brief, i.e., due weight, with the primary coverage at WGU's article. Happy for it to be adjusted/shorter but it is one of the main news-worthy thing he's been quoted in and talked about in lately.

As for this revert Special:Diff/1154207440, I trust you mistakenly called it "vandalism" because I assure you it was a good faith edit to expand our coverage of him and expand the number of reliable sources we reference to see if a WP:NOTABLE article can be made about Pulsipher. In general, calling something/someone "vandalism"/"a vandal" can be seen as as a personal attack. And beside that, I'm not sure your objection with it since it was largely taken from a book he seemingly freely was interviewed for. I may not edit that article again, although maybe after it's settled down some. But if you actually think I was trying to harm it, you may notice that I remove the speedy deletion flag because I thought he was probably notable and then looked for sources to expand it. Skynxnex (talk) 23:43, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe calling it vandalism was hasty. I reread what you wrote, and I had completely missed a sentence. It changed the meaning of what you wrote completely. I basically thought you were trying to paint the guy as a whiney, and otherwise useless person, which might be true but is inappropriate for wikipedia. I'll unrevert that one. Apologies. I don't really think the IG report is relevant though, in part because it was walked back entirely, with the IG ultimately agreeing with the DoE. Userdk (talk) 23:53, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
