Genius Invokation TCG (Chinese: 七圣召唤; pinyin: Qī Shèng Zhào Huàn) is a trading card game in Genshin Impact, released in version 3.3 titled "All Senses Clear, All Existence Void" on December 7, 2022.[1][2][3]

Story

Genius Invokation TCG takes place in a popular card game set in a fictional world of Teyvat. The game was developed by the scholars in Sumeru. In order to promote the game, scholars commissionned the traveling merchant named Liben, to bring the prototype of the card game to Yae Publishing House in Inazuma, and commissioned by the novelist Fukumoto, to create the light novel called This novel is Amazing for publicity[4]

Gameplay

The game uses turn-based battles. Players need to build a deck with a combination of 3 character cards and 30 action cards, and win by knocking down all the opponent's character cards. Each round need to throw 8 Elemental dice to turn action phase, which can be used to switch character cards, action cards, character cards to attack, etc.[5] [6][7] The gameplay has also been added to the game. The elemental reaction can provide additional damage, limit the actions of opponent characters and other effects.[8] Players in Genshin Impact will get a prop to mark the player characters on the map that can be played against, or invite players to fight in Mondstadt's Cat's Tail tavern. Defeating opponents can get certain rewards, which can be used to unlock new cards.[9] After the player's card level reaches 4, they can invite and play against other players via co-op mode.[10]

Development

MiHoYo's positioning of the gameplay is a "light and casual" player versus environment mode, and there will be no rewards for PvP. All cards can be obtained during the normal gameplay, and there is no charge to draw cards.[11] The game was introduced in November 2021. and it was not officially launched until version 3.3. Genius Invokation TCG is also the first release PvP of the game.[4]

MiHoYo plans to launch new character cards in each game version and continue to improve the gameplay. After receiving feedback from players, the development team will launch a match recording function and improve the operating experience of the game controller in version 3.4 of the game.[12]

Reception

Before the launch of Genius Invokation TCG in mid-November 2022. some players made Genius Invokation TCG game modding on Tabletop Simulator according to the official information.[6][13] Before and after the launch of the game.[14] it has attracted the attention of many fans of trading card games in China. After the game launched. the English community spontaneously organized a Swiss-made unofficial card tournament.[15]

After the launch of Genius Invokation TCG received positive comments from many critics. many commentators compared the game with Hearthstone and Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, and believed that Genius Invokation TCG can expand game audience.[16] Commentators also mentioned that Genius Invokation TCG can help improve the later experience of the game. Siliconera critic Stephanie Liu said that Genius Invokation TCG rekindled her excitement in the early days of the game.[17] Gamersky editor Youming Xingkong said that the Genius Invokation TCG is an attempt to keep players fresh in Genshin Impact and solve the burnout that will occur in long-term operation games.[18] The Youxiputao editor also pointed out that Genius Invokation TCG can "make up for the shortcomings of the game's long-term experience" and "strengthen the relationship between players".[19]
