X-Rated is the debut extended play (EP) by American singer Abrielle Erotica. It was released on July 28, 2017 through Republic Records.[2]

Background

"I've been called a whore all of my life, especially when I first started making music in like 2014. Even my family said I was disgusting. But If I like to fuck people and write songs about it, then I fucking will.

Erotica signed to Republic Records in 2016 before starting work on her debut EP and studio album.[4] The extended play wasn't intended to be released until later in 2017, however Erotica stated "I felt like the tracklist was already perfect, so I decided to finish it there."[5] The EP was completed in July 2017, after work started sometime in early 2017.[6]

Release and promotion

In early July 2017, Erotica began to post snippets of then unreleased songs on her Instagram and Twitter accounts. A few days later, Erotica posted 15-second videos of each song from July 17 to July 21.[7] On July 21, Erotica officially announced the EP's name, cover art, and tracklist.[8]

Reception

The project received a mixed reception. While some critics praised the EP's sex-positive nature,[9][10][11] others criticized Petras' association with producer Dr. Luke, who produced the entirety of the EP.[12][13]

Superslut is the second extended play (EP) by American singer Abrielle Erotica. It was released on August 16, 2019 through Republic Records.[19]

Background

"I love sex. It's fun, exciting, and amazing. That's why I made this EP. It's called Superslut because that's what I am. I'm a slut and I'm super."

After Erotica released her debut EP, X-Rated in 2017, she quickly began work on Superslut.[21] In 2018, Erotica took a break off of music for unknown reasons. Prior to 2018,tThe EP was initially supposed to be a "part two" to X-Rated, however, after returning in 2019, the idea was eventually scrapped.[22] The EP was completed in June 2019.[23]

Release and promotion

On August 13, three days before the EP's release, Erotica officially announced the EP.[24]

Reception

The project received a mixed reception. While some critics praised the EP's sex-positive nature,[25][26][27] others criticized Petras' association with producer Dr. Luke, who produced the entirety of the EP.[28][29]
