Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (transl. Rocky and Rani's Love Story) is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy family drama film directed by Karan Johar and written by Ishita Moitra, Shashank Khaitan and Sumit Roy. Produced by Dharma Productions and Viacom18 Studios, the film stars Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt.[1][2]

The film was announced in July 2021.[3] Principal photography commenced in August 2021 and wrapped up in March 2023. The film was shot in Mumbai, New Delhi, Russia and Jammu & Kashmir. The music of the film is composed by Pritam and the cinematography is handled by Manush Nandan. The film is scheduled for release on 28 July 2023.

Production

Principal photography of the film commenced on 20 August 2021.[5] The first schedule took place in Mumbai, before moving to Moscow in September 2021 for a song shoot with Singh and Bhatt.[6][7] In October 2021, second schedule commenced in Delhi.[8]

The next schedule was scheduled for early 2022 but it was delayed due to the Omicron variant spreading.[9] Finally, the third schedule kicked off in April 2022 near Mumbai and Delhi.[10][11] On 1 August 2022, Dharma Productions released a video announcing the film's wrap except a song, whose shoot was delayed due to Bhatt's pregnancy. The song was filmed in Jammu & Kashmir, thus wrapping up the entire film in March 2023.[12]

Soundtrack

The music of the film is composed by Pritam. All lyrics are written by Amitabh Bhattacharya.

Release

The teaser of the film was released on 20 June 2023 on Dharma Productions Youtube channel.[13] It was initially scheduled to release on 10 February 2023 and then on 28 April 2023, but was postponed due to shooting delay.[14][15] It is finally slated to hit cinemas on 28 July 2023.[16]
