Helpful Tools for Patrolers

May I ask if Wikipedia has a more useful tool than Twinkle for patrollers? Thanks. DANGGIAO No risk, no life. No malice, no fear 07:46, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but this is not really a question for the Reference desk. Do you have any specific patrol in mind? For the new pages patrol it is best to ask at the talk page for new pages patrollers. They have a tutorial course with tutors for newcomers. The recent changes patrol has a section about tools. If this does not help, they also have a talk page.  --Lambiam 20:56, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What are the masks in Kansas City Confidential made from?

watched the movie today and was wondering if anyone knew what material the masks the robbers use are made from, or what type of mask they are? I suspect they are die cut leather, used perhaps as safety equipment from metal workers, family members think they might be felt. For some reason they give me a mass-produced industrial vibe, but this could be influenced by all the common tropes in heist film gear. The masks seem too plain to be of any novelty or entertainment purpose, and is they are PPE its for a job where eating/drinking or otherwise usage of the mouth is deemed unnecessary. The masks look to be one piece with some taken in for the seam under the nose, with perhaps a baseball cap style of buckle on the back. The latching mechanism isn't shown well in the film. None of the film blogs take up this question. here are some link to a still of the masks. This image in particular shows the vertical stitched seam under the nose. another feature than suggests to me this is PPE is how tight to the brimline of the cap the mask rides, it could be tucked under the sweat band of a hard hat, and the size and shape goes beyond what is necessary for total obfuscation of the wearers face. It's always possible that their design was invented by the movie's costume department. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.197.177.243 (talk) 00:31, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Given the age of that movie, it could be almost anything. Presumably they don't need to actually be functional, they just have to look vaguely functional. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely any of the film's producers are still around for you to ask. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots01:28, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
From the looks, the masks are definitely not PPE, since they leave the eyes, by far the most vulnerable part of the face, unprotected, and also do not cover the nostrils and so do not protect the bearers from inhaling noxious gases or airborne particles. Since they all seem to fit snugly, they can hardly have been custom-made of leather cut and shaped and stitched to the measures of each of the individual bearers, which would have been unnecessarily expensive, and implausible in the narrative. So my guess is that they are made of felt, which can easily be shaped to a desired form, as when fabricating homburg hats.  --Lambiam 12:16, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
From this image, it looks like felt to me. Alansplodge (talk) 00:07, 6 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This review agrees:
The real culprits, in a proto-Tarantino flourish that’s as surreal as it is functional, are a suited trio wearing identical felt masks with slits for eyes, mouths, and ears. Alansplodge (talk) 00:13, 6 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And this. That's all folks! Alansplodge (talk) 00:17, 6 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Will Oppenheimer play in many IMAX theaters

Only 20 IMAX prints of Oppenheimer (film) are going to be shown in the US. It is being shown in only a fraction of the IMAX theaters. But it is said to have a theatrical time of 100 days. Is it going to be shown in different IMAX theaters (other than the initial 20) over that time period? Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 03:35, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Soulful but jazzy collaboration

Recently, I saw these same videos on YouTube. One was uploaded by a saxophonist named Jeanette Harris [1]. The other was uploaded by a flutist named Althea Rene [2]. Calling themselves "The Queens of Soul Jazz", they collaborated on a cover of the Maze featuring Frankie Beverly song We Are One. Did they make an album together? Are any of their collaboration songs available online?2603:7000:8641:810E:338:32DA:589A:8A1B (talk) 10:27, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That one song is available to stream on Spotify. According to Discogs (user-generated content, but usually pretty reliable), they haven't done any other collaborations. --Viennese Waltz 10:41, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Magnum PI

I know Magnum PI had to be very big in its time when our TV was constantly rerunning it over here when I was a kid. Are there any novels or novelizations of it? Or was that just not a thing then? I can't dig up anything even tho I've found and read novels based on much less known TV series. 31.217.9.194 (talk) 00:23, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A novel was published in 1981. You can find information here. Cullen328 (talk) 01:25, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like there were more - see here. DuncanHill (talk) 01:39, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Human vs. Satan

Are there any films where a human protagonist (with his/her inevitable flaws) defeats Satan (or at least a supernatural, demonic Satan-like antagonist)? 2601:646:9882:46E0:D8D8:26A9:B991:74E2 (talk) 06:42, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
