Charles "Charlie" Duncan Green V (born May 10, 1999), best known as CG5, is an American singer-songwriter, and producer.

He is best known for his songs about video games, which he publishes on his YouTube channel[1]. He has released multiple songs in collaboration with fellow YouTuber creators Tubbo (Tobias James "Toby" Smith), CaptainSparklez (Jordan Allencooper Maron), BadBoyHalo (Darryl Noveschosch), and others. His most popular video is "FNAF 4 REMIX ▶ The Living Tombstone - I Got No Time [SFM] | CG5"[2] with 101 million views, featuring a remix-cover of "I Got No Time", a song by The Living Tombstone. His 1st and 2nd runner-up videos are "Show Yourself - Among Us Song"[3] with 98 million views, and "Lyin' 2 Me - Among Us Song"[4] with 81 million views; both featuring an original song about the video game, Among Us. His 3rd runner-up video "I See a Dreamer (Dream Team Original Song)"[5] with 78 million views, featuring an original song based on the Minecraft manhunt series by Dream.

His main YouTube channel has 5.03 million subscribers as of August 2023.

On 24 December 2017, Charlie collaborated with OR3O (Euria Sin) and released the song "Absolutely Anything"[6] based on the video game, Bendy and the Ink Machine. The song became popular, with people posting videos with the sound on TikTok. This song would get a 2020 edit from record label Spinnin' Records.[7]

On 27 March 2019, he released his first album Patiently. It features 8 original songs based on his love relationship status; some being things he's never experienced.

On 1 July 2022, CG5 sang the USA National Anthem for the Red Sox in the Wrigley Field.[8]

On 8 September 2022, Charlie collaborated with Salem Ilese and released the song "MINION". The song is based on the internet meme Gentleminions, where people would dress up in proper attire to watch the animated film, Minions: The Rise of Gru.

On 27 January 2023, LeGrand collaborated with CG5 and released the song "give a little"[9]. LeGrand would post a promotional video with a remix of the song explaining how he gained contact with CG5[10]; the line going "Everybody told me that I sound like CG5, what they didn't know is that his studio is just a couple miles from mine." CG5 would post a video on his TikTok account; however, he changed the line to, "Everybody told me that I sound like CG5, probably because I am CG5."[11] The sound became popular on TikTok.

On 24 March 2023, Charlie released his song "Out of My Mind", which the music video features Cheyenne Jackson.[12]

On 5 May 2023, Charlie collaborated with award-winning Davie Archuleta and released the song "IDONTUNDERSTAND".[13]

Personal life

Charlie lives in Phoenix, Arizona with his roommate, Andrew, who he's great friends with. He has three siblings; Matilda, Jonah, and Silas and have contributed in some of his songs. He is heterosexual, and is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints[14]. He also claims to have autism spectrum disorder[15], and scoliosis, which is referenced in his song "Scoliosis"[16][17].

Career

Charlie had a strong interest in music from the 1980's and 1990's when he was 2-years old. 3 years later, he would start creating music on his personal computer with the digital audio workstation, Hip-Hop eJay 4.[18] When he was 15, he started posting covers on songs on the YouTube channel "Charlie Green"[19]; though he nicknames himself as "CG5" in his old videos.[20]

On 18 October 2014, Charlie would create the channel, "CG5". The channel initially started primarily for releasing non-vocal remixes of songs. As more people were interested in his remixes, he was initially anxious of putting his voice onto the channel.[21] On 6 May 2017, CG5 would release his first original song on the channel, "Can I Get An Amen"[22], based on the video game, Bendy and the Ink Machine. With his success, he started releasing more songs based on video games; one of which is "I Got No Time (Remix/Cover)"[23] which as of today, is CG5's most viewed video with over 100 million views.[24] With the huge success he is gaining from this channel, he decided to switch over.

Charlie's success primarily came from his songs on video games such as Bendy and the Ink Machine, Five Nights and Freddy's, and Cuphead; though he does make songs on other subjects, such as popular trends, his relationship status, and his mental problems. His songs range within the subgenres nerdcore, horrorcore, and comedy hip hop.

On 26 November 2015, Charlie would start his own secondary YouTube channel, also called "Charlie Green"[25]. These videos initially consist of sketches, challenges, and gaming videos. However, as his success on his "CG5" channel grew more, he decided to turn the channel from gaming videos to behind-the-scenes footage of his songs' production; though he still posts random videos, challenge videos that are primarily cut-down and edited vods from his livestreams on Twitch.[26]
