Removed from the List of individual trees:
"*Tyburn Tree, the name given to a gallows which stood in London, England between 1571 and 1783. The name is derived from elm trees which stood near the site, which was used as a place of execution before the construction of the gallows."
- Tyburn 'tree' is not a tree at all, it is a figurative term for a (wooden) gallows, and derives from the gallows situated at Tybrun in London. The place name does not derive from elms, but means 'boundary place'. - MPF 09:35, 1 Jun 2004 (UTC)
"The General Grant tree, the official Christmas tree of the United States..." My impression is that the official tree is on the White house lawn. Wetman 06:36, 6 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Verified. Official designation is "Nation's Christmas Tree."
Page title
This page should be moved back to List of famous trees. It is a listing of notable individual trees; List of trees instead suggests a list of tree species or genera. - MPF 20:44, 28 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- Agreed. Either that or add in famous/important tree species/groups. EG - Wollemia
- Agree here as well. - Briarfallen (talk) 12:11, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
adding to list
What criteria are being used for addition of trees to this list?

The Wonderboom
The article at Wonderboom is pretty lame, but maybe it could be fleshed out and added to this list.72.196.104.129 01:07, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
Should the joshua tree from U2's album be included?
Has there been any prior discussion on whether the actual joshua tree, as seen on the cover of U2's "The Joshua Tree" album, belongs on this page? It could be added to the list of famous North American historical trees, or under the North American "other" section.
Pros: It's well recognized, or at least the album cover is. People make pilgrimages to the site of the tree.
Cons: Joshua trees technically aren't trees. But there's no "List of famous yuccas" page. Its location isn't well-known.

methuselah still the oldest tree?
I just read this article on MSN talking about five thousand to seven thousand year old hybrid scrub oaks: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19577541/
Anne Frank Tree
How about the Anne Frank Tree? What is the criteria? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.73.44.61 (talk) 17:30, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
North America: added Atlas Grove Iluvatar & Lost Monarch
Just added Atlas Grove Iluvatar.
It's even more famous than the largest known redwood Lost Monarch - which probably is worth adding too.
Atlas Grove Iluvatar was the tree focused on the most, by best-selling author Richard Preston. Iluvatar is the tree that became promoted in Ilustrations. And researcher Robert Van Pelt, further expanded the tree's fame in his book about Pacific Coast giant trees. Atlas Grove Iluvatar is basically on par with Hyperion. Both trees were introduced to the public via the same handful of big tree hunters.ThreeWikiteers (talk) 16:14, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- Added Lost Monarch too, which is the largest known coastal redwood. It's less illustrated than Iluvatar, but equally famous, since it's the largest.
Newton
I've heard that the apple tree (or at least a relative of it) Isaac Newton was sitting under when he had his 'eureka' moment with the law of gravitation is still standing. Anyone know where? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thisnamestaken (talk • contribs) 19:34, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
- There is a page about it, and I agree that it should be listed. The page describes the original tree, and mentions several clones that have been cultivated. I have seen the one in Cambridge (UK); it is very popular with tourists. Poslfit (talk) 13:47, 9 August 2023 (UTC)

Lech, Czech and Rus (Oaks of Rogalin)
It strikes me that the trees representing the mythical fathers of the Poles, Czechs and Russians ought to be included in this list. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lech,_Czech_and_Rus#Oaks_of_Rogalin 24.23.168.135 (talk) 06:45, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
Other trees
If we're listing the Disney Tree of Life, why not the Swiss Family Treehouse tree? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.63.69.193 (talk) 08:44, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
Another old tree
I just read this story.
Unfortunately this tree is now uprooted due to a windstorm. Based on the stated information it is older than some others listed in this article.

Girth
Does girth mean the diameter of the tree trunk? If so, at what height please? Wanderer57 (talk) 23:55, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
The drive-through redwood (or sequoia)?
Shouldn't that Northern California redwood (or perhaps sequoia?) that they carved an automobile drive-through hole into be listed? [signed] FLORIDA BRYAN — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.153.234.136 (talk) 01:56, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

Hello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just added archive links to one external link on List of trees. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}}

Be positive
I just removed unnecessary negative tags at the top of the article, {{refimprove}} and {{cleanup}}, plus unnecessary multiple issues packaging, which have made the article look bad since mid-2015. They displayed approximately:
This article has multiple issues. Please help improve it or discuss these issues on the talk page. (Learn how and when to remove these template messages) This article needs additional citations for verification. (August 2015) This article contains embedded lists that may be poorly defined, unverified or indiscriminate. (August 2015)
Hey if you have specific referencing concerns state them here or use inline tagging to mark what you have a problem with. But the majority of rows in this list-article have no sources because the topics are well-sourced in their linked articles, which is FINE. The sources do not need to be here, unless there is something controversial. Trees are not controversial, are they? Have a nice day. :) --doncram 22:45, 29 June 2016 (UTC)

Notable Geography Error
Multiple trees in Mexico are listed in the South America section. Mexico is in North America. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.211.64.215 (talk) 17:22, 9 December 2019 (UTC)
Restructuring
I think this page should be restructured for easier reference based on reason of notability. The main categories will remain geographical (continental), then subcategories such as Religious, Otherwise Historical, Size, Age, and Other. I don't want to unilaterally change this page entirely. Is there any support for this idea? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bubbleobviously (talk • contribs) 17:02, 16 December 2019 (UTC)

Hello all, I just started an article for Door Tree in Hamden Connecticut. Can someone help me add it to the list? Thanks much Bruxton (talk) 17:06, 9 February 2022 (UTC)

Mexico is North America
Mexicos trees are listed as Central American. Under no standard classification is Mexico in Central America. For reference: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continent Maybe drop the separation by continent and just have a big list, sortable by age, location, and such? 186.18.86.218 (talk) 02:24, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
