Requested move 13 December 2017

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: moved to Theater in the United States. See clear consensus to 1) rename this article, and 2) use "in" rather than "of". There is also fairly strong support for "theater" instead of "theatre". Happy New Year to All! (closed by page mover)  Paine Ellsworth  put'r there  16:52, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Plus, the articles on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Off-Off-Broadway use -re. Aristophanes68 (talk) 08:36, 21 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Keep "of" to maintain consistency with Theatre of ancient Greece and Theatre of the United Kingdom. The proposal misreads the nuance of this topic, which I find hard to explain at the moment.
Keep "theater". This is a WP:ENGVAR issue, in the absence of compelling reason to change, stick with WP:RETAIN, noting "theater" was the title in the first non-stub version[1]. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 05:07, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Appalling lead

"Theater of the United States is based in the Western tradition. Regional or resident theaters in the United States are professional theater companies outside New York City that produce their own seasons."

I rewrote it; how does it read now? Any suggestions for what else to add? Aristophanes68 (talk) 08:24, 21 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
