Jammu & Kashmir Ittihadul Muslimeen (Urdu: جموں و کشمیر اتحاد المسلمین) (abbr. JKIM) is a Kashmiri nationalist Shia separatist political party which aims for Shi'a–Sunni unity in Kashmir & independence of Jammu and Kashmir from India through peaceful struggle.[1] It was founded by Mohammad Abbas Ansari and his followers in 1962 at Srinagar Kashmir.[2][3][4] As of 2023, Masroor Abbas Ansari is the head of this organisation.[5]


History and Perspective

History

Jammu & Kashmir Ittihadul Muslimeen was founded by a group of Shiite Muslim clergy and scholars headed by Maulana Mohammad Abbas Ansari on February 2, 1962 in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir . It is popular among Shiite Muslims in the Jammu and Kashmir and other Neighbor countries like India, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq and in syria. It is now headed by Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari after his father’s death in 2022.

Perspective

The party's main perspective is to speak against the oppression of shia community, establish goodwill with the Sunni Muslim community, raise political and religious awareness among Muslims and to revive the teachings of the Quran and Muhammad and his family in the society.

8th Muharram Struggles

In History, Leader were arrested many in the protest. The government privately cites fear of militant strikes as a reason for the restrictions. Shia leaders in the state, such as Mohammad Abbas Ansari, complain that the restrictions are discriminatory and impinge of their freedom of religion.

In 2023, the Muharram 8th procession was allowed after 34 years of hiatus.[6][7]

Jammu & Kashmir Ittihadul Muslimeen President and Senior leader All Parties Hurriyat Conference Hujatul islam Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari on Friday 2023 hailed the decision of LG administration and Lieutenant governors of Jammu and Kashmir to lift the 34 year old ban on 8th Muharram procession saying he acknowledges efforts made by all wings of the administration towards this end.[8][9][10]

In 2023, They were successful to conduct Ashura processions in Kashmir including 8th Muharram and 10th Muharram in Srinagar.

Ideology

According to JKIM, Islam is and was the basic ideology of Jammu and Kashmir; by deviating this ideology a conspiracy was made to make Jammu and Kashmir a sectarian state. At this stage, the formation of JKIM was deemed necessary for the failure of this conspiracy. The main ideology is Shia Sunni Unity in Jammu and Kashmir and the main objective of this organisation was to protect the rights of Shia Muslims of Jammu and Kashmir and give them a voice in the International.
