Featured list
Thanks for you recent message regarding List of recordings preserved in the United States National Recording Registry's recently failed attempt for Featured list status. The reason why I close the discussion was that 17 days had elapsed, and the list had still not gathered *any* support votes beyonf the original nomination. When a list fails to attract the rqeuired four support votes within ten days, then an additional period of time isgiven to the list to see whether it can attract more support. After a week and no more support, I felt that the nomination should be closed.
I apreciate you have a put a *lot* of work into this article since it was nominated (see diff). I reccomend you go through the comments made and make absolutly sure they are addressed, and also check against WP:FLC for good measure. I think it's a high quality list that definately could be of FL quality before long.
With regard to "not closing the discussion"... FL discussions aren't closed as such - they are just put in the relevant log file. I personally feel that discussions should be closed off in a manner similar to AfD, so that the closing editor can give a clear reason for their actions.
Lastly, please don't be put off by a failed nomination... you describe me as an "expert", but I've had at least half a dozen failed nominations to date.
Tompw (talk) 22:34, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- I concur with Tompw. Closing as a failure was probably warranted considering the state of the discussion at the time. I still think there are improvements to be done (now that I look at it the way the images are formatted/placed is far from ideal, I think), and I'll see tomorrow if I can work on it.Circeus 21:54, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
Image:20070223 100 Cans.JPG
Because Image:20070223 100 Cans.JPG is an unfree image used under fair use, it should not, per Wikipedia:Fair use criteria #9, be used outside article space. You may, however, add a link to it from your gallery. --Iamunknown 21:02, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Point taken. Family probably does belong in the "Personal Information" section of the infobox. Offspring could fit in that as well. I removed it because I was afraid that adding the entire immediate family might be too long in some cases, but I suppose it does indeed belong there. Supertigerman 03:48, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your contributions in expanding the article and for the nomination! — ERcheck (talk) 04:58, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
- It is protocol to give a note to the article creator, nominator, and if it was a substantial expansion, to that editor as well. I did note that it was a collaborative effort, and since you were the nominator and I noted that you had done a substantial amount of the expanding, I left you the note as well. I hope you will share this with the group. At your suggestion/request, I've left a note on ChicagoPimp's talk page as well. — ERcheck (talk) 05:42, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Looks nice. I made some revisions, moved type around to make the paragraph more linear, but otherwise it seems fine to me. That's just one opinion, though. :-) TheQuandry 19:49, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
Martial arts
Hey Tony, a friendly request. Since you seem to be a martial arts expert, do you know any good places around Hyde Park where I can take classes? I've walked by Fitzgerald's Martial Arts on 55th many times but he seems to only teach children, or at least I only ever see kids there. Ideally I'd like to sign up for something ongoing, like 2 or 3 nights a week, get some much needed exercise, have fun and learn something. TheQuandry 20:06, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism?!
It is a fact that he appeared in a 2000 video for a party, with Rudy Giuliani, the latter being in drag. This is a fact.
What, precisely are the grounds for the vandalism charge?? Arbol25 03:15, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments on my talk page regarding using Template:Cite web; I didn't know about that template and found it very useful. I've made the changes you requested to the Prairie Avenue page as well--and thanks for your contributions! - Varmaa 14:49, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
Campbell's Soup Cans FAC2
You were fairly vocal in FAC1 and have not chimed in on FAC2. Your comments and hopefully support are welcome. TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio) 16:11, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
- Two things: I've just returned from two weeks of travel, and have two more weeks coming up, so I have to be careful not to get myself overcommitted on FAC. Second, my Support of that article would depend highly on resolution of the Fair Use issues. I don't speak Fair Use, so unless there is an endorsement from Jkelly, Peta, or someone who I know does understand Fair Use, I would be reluctant to Support. AfD
Why? 1ne 00:36, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- I had no opinion when I started the Afd, and I still don't. ^_^ The only thing important to me is keeping crap like "You're So Vain" out of it if it gets kept. JuJube 01:00, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- As much value as I think the article has, I voted weak delete because it quite simply goes against policy and has no references.--NPswimdude500 01:37, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Admin coaching
I noticed that you signed up for a coach I'm available, if you still need one. I do have just a few conditions though, and they are that you...
- don't go for another RfA or accept an RfA nomination until I think you are ready.
- take feedback and advice provided by me and your fellow students to heart (this should be a group effort)
- display the template {{VC lessons}} somewhere on one of your user pages where you can access it easily (at or near the top of your talk page is a pretty good place).
- complete the assignments that I post for you at the Virtual classroom, to the best of your ability.
- participate in the training of the other students at the VC, by providing feedback, asking questions, and making suggestions, etc. Collaboration is highly encouraged.
If you agree, I'll set up a section for you on the Virtual classroom, and we can get started.
I look forward to your reply. The Transhumanist 23:13, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:1281_Grainstack_Overcast_Weather_Snow_Effect,_Meule,_effet_de_neige,_temps_couvert,_1891,_65x92,_Oil_on_Canvas,_Art_Institute_of_Chicago.JPG)
Thanks for uploading Image:1281_Grainstack_Overcast_Weather_Snow_Effect,_Meule,_effet_de_neige,_temps_couvert,_1891,_65x92,_Oil_on_Canvas,_Art_Institute_of_Chicago.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. — Rebelguys2 talk 04:55, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Citation
i found the info using Google without navigating through the CPD site. then, in terms of the reference, look at the Burnham Park reference and then break it down into three parts:
the name: ref name="ChicagoParkDistrict"
the citation: cite web|url=http://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/parks.detail/object_id/64E17E20-2CD6-4C0B-92CA-8DBA811B8CA3.cfm
misc info: |title=Chicago Park District|accessdate=March 13|accessyear=2007
whatever is entered for reference name should be used for later references is from the same page. the citations is url. misc info are details. whatever is entered for title is what appears in the reference or note section. using this reference style will add the a b c d for a reference and shorten the list at the end.
is this what you wanted to know? or other? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by ChicagoPimp (talk • contribs) 23:07, 14 March 2007 (UTC).

List featured
The List of recordings preserved in the United States National Recording Registry is now a featured list, thanks to your shepherding it through the nomination process. I just wanted to say I am gratified to have collaborated in the editing. I read the news about the 2006 additions on Yahoo and then checked Wikipedia for more information, and ended up adding the new recordings in the list myself. By following the example you set in the previous years' tables, and accompanying public domain images, it was an enjoyable, enlightening task. Congratulations. — WiseKwai 15:42, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Washington Park photos
Sorry I haven't been around much, I just moved last weekend and am in the process of unpacking and dealing with getting utilities up and running, and I'm also going out of town on business this weekend. Coincidentally, I now live directly across the street from the DuSable Museum. As for swapping photos, I think the picture of the DuSable Museum would work well over at the neighborhood article, as well as the the distance shot of the Taft sculpture. By the way, I'm not sure if you've been by there lately, but they took down that ugly chainlink fence that was up around the Taft and cut out the grass/weeds, so it might be worthwhile to get a new photo. I can do that late next week if you like. TheQuandry 16:29, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Chicago Board of Trade building
Hi, I added a couple of references to Chicago Board of Trade Building, as I could. Unfortunately I don't have a good (print) reference for the item about the pedestrian bridge over Van Buren being closed -- this is info I learned in conversation with CBT's Director of Security in 2004. Campbell's Soup Cans FAC
Thanks for the typo fixes. It's a great article bty. Ceoil 20:24, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- I'm working my way through the article to be honest, just haven't gotten to the last sections yet ;). When I'm done (and I'll try and finish up tonight) I'll register my support. It always surprises me there aren't more visual arts FA noms, which is why I was delighted to see your article put forward. I'll be putting a similar article forward in a month or two, though I'm slightly dismayed at the fair use issues you are having. Ceoil 20:38, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- Fair enough, but the pattern has been that FACs with fair use issues have been extended out to allow editors resolve the issues - Smashing Pumpkins had similar concerns raised, and ran for almost a month. Ceoil 20:45, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- Given how vague a person Warhol was, maybe the section heading "Message" is too obvious. Did he ever actually come out and say what his intended meaning was? I'm not sure what would be a better alternative heading, something along the lines of "interpretation", though thats not great either. Ceoil 21:53, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Goings-on
Hi, the collaborations are transcluded to Wikipedia:Goings-on from Template:Announcements/Current collaborations so the collaboration will have to be added there with the same format as the others (i.e. a link to Wikipedia:WikiProject Chicago/COTW and a template that always links to the current collaboration). Let me know if you have further questions. Cheers, --KFP (talk | contribs) 20:33, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

"I only need three" was meant to mean that if someone has "only" 500 GHits, I only need three of them if they are good references. I dont see GHits as having any relevance. An obscure Ming poet may be encyclopedic based on paper references only, and I may have 4,000 GHits but not be encyclopedic. Cheers. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) 20:36, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Article of the day / Featured content
Hi Tony. I responded with some ideas about TFA on the featured content talk page. --CBD 00:29, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
Stupid
First, we don't do these things by vote count (and if we did, the anon wouldn't have counted). Second, "stupid" is indeed not a reason, but it seems to me that the person who said that was simply trying to make a joke and really meant "per the above". More importantly, though, "being mentioned" doesn't count as external coverage. What matters is if they actually said something about the site. For instance, the mention at Foodnetwork is just an address in a list of many. The mention in Pcmag is also just a link in a web directory. What we're looking for in sites such as these is external coverage. For instance, this page lists sites that cover Wikipedia in actual news articles, as opposed to this list which shows sites which merely mention us. HTH! >Radiant< 09:19, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Dear Tony, some time ago you made a suggestion on the talk page above, regarding the collapsibility of that template. Today I implemented a new function that allows the editors to specify the number of AfDs in the listing that show up collapsed. Can you have a look at it? Any comments are appreciated. Regards, --Cpt. Morgan (Reinoutr) 20:41, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for your comment. With number choice, you mean the number of the "collapse" value, I assume. I just added a few examples to the documentation and I will clarify the description. --Cpt. Morgan (Reinoutr) 21:01, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Wonderbra
Hi, I shifted your recent addition of Madison Michelle in the Wonderbra article to a new list called Wonderbra Women. During the Featured Article Candidacy process, a list of Wonderbra Women that had been with previous versions of the article was removed based on recommendations by the editors. One suggestion was the creation of a separate Wonderbra Women list. Regards. Mattnad 13:02, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
My concern about your username (TonyTheTiger)
Hello, TonyTheTiger, and thank you for contributing to Wikipedia!
I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?
Tony the Tiger is a coprighted mascot of the Kellogg company and could be seen as an edvertisement for, or endorsement of Kellogg products.
I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.
You have several options freely available to you:
- If you can relieve my concern through discussing it here, I can stop worrying about it.
- If the two of us can't agree here, we can ask for help through Wikipedia's dispute resolution process, such as asking for a "third opinion", or requesting comments from other Wikipedians. Admins usually abide by agreements reached through this process.
- If you decide to just go ahead and change your username, it is possible for you to keep your present contributions history under the new username: simply request a new name here following the guidelines on that page, rather than creating a whole new account.
Let me reassure you that my writing here means I don't think your username is grossly, blatantly, or obviously inappropriate; such names get reported straight to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism (WP:AIV), or blocked on sight. This is more a case where opinions might differ, and it would be good to reach some consensus — either here or at WP:RFC/NAME. So I look forward to a friendly discussion, and to enjoying your continued participation on Wikipedia. Thank you again! 4kinnel 19:53, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
- Reason for wanting this particular name.
- See my bio that is a linked attachment to my signature. I am a prominent martial artist. That is essentially my performing name or stage name. If the commercial release of my video CD is successful, I hope to be notable enough to have my bio unuserfied within 6 months.
- I would be averse to surrendering this name. I would contest through every possible avenue before doing so.
- I have been known by the name Tony, have attended junior high school, senior high school and college at schools with Tiger mascots.
- As a prominent martial artist, the Tiger is a sacred animal to me. It represents stealth, grace, power, and ferocity.
- I have built up a lot of human capital with 11000 good edits under this name. This week, I earned my first WP:FL, I anticipate within the next few days to have my first WP:FA.
- Reading the page you cite, I believe the grounds you are contesting on would be applicable if my user name were Frosted Flakes. Not sure if it applies to Tony The Tiger.
- Alternative names
- El Tigre
- Brutus (which I think was my name for about 50 edits before I switched).
- Antonio Vernon
- Tony Vernon TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio) 20:18, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
- P.S. I chose TonyTheTiger because Tony The Tiger was taken. TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio) 20:25, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for replying so quickly. Your answers seem very reasonable so I would not wish to take it any further. Best wishes 4kinnel 20:26, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
Miss Iraq
Claudia hanna Is not Miss Iraq and never took part in a Miss Iraq contest you may contact ABC news for the 2006 article
as for the pageants organized by Talat Models were pasted here so that people dont come up and ask by email inquiring about the pageant,
also your article regarding claudia Hanna is false
she was a runner up in MISS ARAB WORLD which is an unofficial pageant and the real organizers are available on www.missarabworld.com
Claudia won Miss Arab World when the initial winner was dethroned and Silva Sahagian is the official Miss Iraq 2006 after Tamar Goregian stepped down
you may contact the Pageant News Bureau and get the inside scoop from them.Mriraq 14:51, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
- I am not sure why you are writing me.
Dear Sir,
I own the Talat Organization and the Talat Model Management and as i get hundreds of emails daily from people who want information on the pageants I organize I decided to place some information on this site to avoid having to send the profile every time, until my official websites are available I am afraid that I need to resort to this site and all I get is attacks from people like you. If you want this articles removed citing vanadlism you should contact me first. the tripod site was placed because Iraq is under seige by a terrorist government , webhost companies dont even want to host my sites and I operate outside of Iraqi territory. Obviously I cant hold a pageant in a war torn country that is why I also spend a fortune creating awarenss to have a UN backed partition plan. I am a caucasian Iraqi of Soviet descent and I want a free Iraq and I run my own political site at http://factsofiraq.tripod.com, while The activities of the Pageant winners is to serve an awareness as well, I have also been interviewed by abc news and you can confirm that with them.
Regards,
Ahmed Kadret
I inserted the links and corrected the information regarding Claudia Hanna, and I think you need to check on the Assyrians page as its full of misleading and false information. seriously those articles need to be deleted. I am trying to locate the Organizers of Miss Arab World, the unofficial ones and sue them for using MISS IRAQ, they should have used MISS ARAB WORLD-IRAQ as MISS IRAQ IS A REGISTERED TRADE MARK OF THE TALAT ORGANIZATION.
Thank you sir for informing me that I should insert links to back my article.
Regards, Ahmed Kadret I have no clue as to how I can insert photos otherwise I would surely add alot more
