  • 1332 - Emperor Godaigo is exiled to Oki Island. (Japanese Date: Seventh Day of the Third Month, 1332)
  • 1908 - Kitasato Shibasaburō and Shiga Kiyoshi form a Cancer Research Society.
  • 1922 - Newspapers venture into the weekly magazine business with the launch of the Weekly Asahi and the Sunday Mainichi.
  • 1932 - Construction on Ueno Station is completed.
  • 1950 - Yoshikawa Eiji begins publishing his New Tale of Heike in the Weekly Asahi.
  • 1951 - 500 yen paper bills make their appearance featuring Iwakura Tomomi.
  • 1954 - Famed Austrian conductor Herbert Von Karajan comes to Japan.
  • 1993 - Japan's first stadium with a roof that opens and closes opens in Fukuoka. The Fukuoka Dome was built at a cost of 76 billion yen and was the home of the Daiei Hawks (now the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks) professional baseball team.
