Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) | Baldur's Gate 3 |
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) | This screenshot depicts the turn-based mechanics of the combat and the implementation of the D&D 5th edition in video game form. |
Not replaceable with free media because (WP:NFCC#1) |
The software or website from which the screenshot is taken is copyrighted and not released under a free license, so creation of a free image is not possible. |
Not replaceable with textual coverage because (WP:NFCC#1) |
The reader's understanding of D&D 5th edition and how this is depicted in the game is highly dependent on prior experience. This screenshot intends to visually clarify what combat looks like for those readers who are not highly fluent in the D&D 5e ruleset. |
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) | This is, at the upload time, the only non-cover non-free screenshot in the article.
It is the very first combat encounter, so it should not compete with the original as a spoiler or a depiction that can substantially replace the experience of the original game. The resolution is in line with WP:IMAGERES. |
Respect for commercial opportunities (WP:NFCC#2) |
The use of a low resolution screenshot from software or a website will not impact the commercial viability of the software or site. |
Other information | A comparable screenshot exists in the Larian's official press kit. However, it is not used because it shows the combat in third-person perspective. While the player can use a limited free-floating camera (including third-person), most players would play the game from the isometric perspective most of the time; therefore, the press combat screenshot could be perceived as slightly misleading.
This screenshot was taken on PC, and it depicts version v4.1.1.3767641 of the game running on Linux under Proton. Most graphics settings, but not all, are at maximum/ultra. The game was not modded, or the screenshot otherwise modified. The original rendering resolution was 2560x1440. The in-game mouse is hidden. |
