Disambiguation

[edit]

@R'n'B: I disagree with your conclusion about WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. IRIN is simply a vague combination of English letters (like PGO, LMP, IPL) which in this case can refer to both organizations. I think current abbreviation of a national military branch –in use since 1979– is much older than former abbreviation of a news agency founded in 1995 (which is no longer in use since 2019). And we know that this redirect was created 17 October 2019. On what grounds, The New Humanitarian is the primary topic? Pahlevun (talk) 13:25, 17 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that IRIN was the longstanding name for the The New Humanitarian and there are a lot of links that reference the news agency. For further discussion, you can start a discussion at redirects for discussion. Natg 19 (talk) 01:39, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
As for the "redirect creation date", it was created in 2019 because the page was moved for the agency renaming. It appears that the news agency was at the IRIN article name from 2007-2019. Natg 19 (talk) 01:43, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It is also a longstanding abbreviation for the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy, being extensively used in English language sources (a few examples: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5]). Usage of IRIN for Iranian navy predates its usage for The New Humanitarian. Pahlevun (talk) 11:44, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
