Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is a 2.5D fighting game developed by Arc System Works and published by Cygames. It is a sequel to Granblue Fantasy Versus, and is scheduled to be released worldwide on December 14, 2023 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Windows.

Gameplay

Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising introduces new mechanics to the game, including new Dash Attacks and an updated Auto Combo (now named as Triple Attack).[1]

The netcode has been updated to include rollback and crossplay.

Rising also features lobby-based minigames, such as "Rising Royale" and "Gold Brick Hoarder".

Characters

All characters from the first game return, in addition to the following new characters:

  • Anila
  • Siegfried
  • Nier
  • Grimnir

Some of these new characters were originally winners of 2022 additional character polls who were meant to be DLC in the first game.[2]

Development and release

Game director Tetsuya Fukuhara expressed a desire for a sequel to be produced. Speculation was uncertain on whether the first Versus will get a PlayStation 5 upgrade with minor updates, but ultimately decided to direct the sequel, which was later announced at GBVS Cygames Cup Special in January 2023, expected to be released in the same year.[3] Originally scheduled to be released on November 30, 2023,[4] the game's launch date was pushed to December 14, 2023 for additional fine-tuning.[5]
