The Hundred Parishes

[edit]

Please stop adding "* [[The Hundred Parishes]]" as an "External link" to articles. It is not an external link. Please add a new section head called "==See also==" above "==External links==" and add the wikilink (without comment) there. Dwpaul Talk 19:55, 19 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

[Later] Much better, thanks. I also added The Hundred Parishes to the template {{Civil parishes of Hertfordshire}} which appears at the bottom of each of the parishes' pages. Dwpaul Talk 20:42, 19 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Threat to delete this article

[edit]

I initiated this article in my capacity initially as a member of the project steering group for two years, followed by two years as secretary of The Hundred Parishes Society since it was established in 2012. I probably have more knowledge about the concept than anyone else. I object to the suggestion that this article might be deleted because it is effectively only promoted by the Hundred Parishes Society. The concept has gathered widespread local support from county and district councils, MPs, MEPs. CPRE, etc, and was formally adopted at a constitutional conference in 2012. It is only since receiving registered charity status in July 2014 that the Society has started to publicise the Hundred Parishes name and concept to the general public. For the last three or four years, organisations and authorities have given encouragement and have been able to view progress through presentations and a temporary website www.essexinfo.net/thehundredparishes. It is not correct to claim that the Society was formed only this year.TeskeyUK (talk) 13:49, 25 August 2014 (UTC). — Preceding unsigned comment added by TesleyUK (talkcontribs) 20:42, 22 August 2014‎ (UTC)[reply]

The nominator is pointing out, correctly, that this article needs citations to establish the supposed "widespread local support" you refer to above and that the name is notable, at the very least among the population of the region, versus it being an invention of the Society that is promoting it. Absent this, the article is likely to be deleted in keeping with Wikipedia policy. Also, please note that as the secretary of the Society, you have established that you have a conflict of interest when writing about it and/or its initiatives here. I will post a separate message on your page about this, which explains that you must use extra care in editing. Most especially you must take pains to make sure any claims are properly cited to independent, reliable sources (not just the Society). Dwpaul Talk 21:05, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Whilst we have several emails and letters of support from, for example MPs and MEPs, the only online reference I have so far found is in the recent blog of Oliver Heald, MP - http://oliverheald.wordpress.com/2014/08/15/the-hundred-parishes-society-and-the-launch-of-its-new-website/ - I don't consider this suitable to include within the article. Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, TeskeyUK. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article The Hundred Parishes, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Dwpaul Talk 21:13, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome!

Hello, TeskeyUK, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few links to pages you might find helpful:

Please remember to sign your messages on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or click here to ask for help here on your talk page and a volunteer will visit you here shortly. Again, welcome! --The preceding is a canned message but I am a person and do personally welcome you. I am sorry that your start in Wikipedia is getting bogged down with negative messages and the Articles For Deletion process on The Hundred Parishes article. It is not right, i am objecting there, the AFD should not have been opened. But I am sure it is already unpleasant for you, and will likely be further unpleasant. Yes, you are associated with the project and need to abide by guidelines in wp:COI, but you are not at all prohibited from contributing to the article and to the AFD discussion that will go on. Do take advantage of the Teahouse, i recommend. Do contact me at my Talk page if I might help on something specific, but I will also "watchlist" here and will most likely see any reply you make here. Hope you hang in there, and get through an initial trial by fire. I am sorry on behalf of lots of experienced editors who hate how this works badly for new editors. sincerely, --doncram 02:14, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Gilston, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Parish council (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
