Cheese is an imaginary friend from the Cartoon Network television series Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. He made his first appearance in the episode "Mac Daddy," which premiered May 6, 2005.
Character description
Cheese likes chocolate milk and he is yellow in color and somewhat human in physical structure in that he has a head, a torso, two arms, two legs, but with a disc-shaped head reminiscent of Pac-Man. His head is very large in proportion to his body, his left foot appears to be backwards when he stands in one place, he appears to have two left hands, and he seems to have a slightly hunched back. When not paying attention to something, his eyes are either crossed or looking in two different directions. His pupils are red-like in color, and one pupil is slightly larger than the other. When he talks, his mouth opens in two different ways: the way everyone else in the show does and like a can lid opening. He was originally imagined by Mac's next door neighbor, Louise.
Cheese's personality traits resemble that of a hyperactive, mentally disabled or low-functioning autistic child. Though he overall comes off as slow-minded, he's displayed exceptional skill at audio memorization.
Cheese likes an assortment of things, including chocolate milk, potatoes, candies, games, "fishy crackers," cereal, etc. He also enjoys repeating the names of these items to everyone he meets. It is debatable that his catchphrase is "I like chocolate milk", as Cheese has uttered this phrase in all of his appearances on the show. Cheese calls pretty much all liquids chocolate milk, so it can get confusing when he's asking for some drink other than chocolate milk. Another of his catch phrases could be his sucking in of breath followed by a deadpan "Okay". He is also known to sometimes announce "I pooted". As well, he is easily frightened by uncommon objects such as cake, sheep, not having a spoon, and other assorted oddities. He is prone to screaming at ear-piercing tones when frightened. He is lactose intolerant, and is therefore not allowed to have chocolate milk. In "The Big Cheese," Cheese claims that he has the following diseases: ringworm, gingivitis, scurvy, dandruff, athlete's foot, a tapeworm, mange, dermatitis, acne, enteritis, tonsilitis ,and Germatitis. Cheese sometimes seems to have a liking to go-carts, as in "Mac-Daddy" Cheese wants to ride Mac and Bloo's go-cart (which ended up having flaming bunnies painted on it because Bloo wanted hot-rod flames and Cheese wanted bunnies) and in the Foster's video game, a level consists of finding go-cart gears to build one for Cheese.
Cheese often confuses the characteristics of various animals. He has called mice doggies, a dog a bunny, and bunnies (most notably Mr. Herriman) kitties.
Cartoon Network commercials
Cheese is one of the characters featured in Cartoon Network's "Yes!" series of commercials and billboards. One billboard shows him with his "I pooted." slogan. One commercial shows him shouting "TV!" excitedly and repeatedly, then licking the screen, adding, "Television tastes funny." Another shows him saying "It is my commercial!" Some of these commercials were rerun during the holiday season.
