Thanas ; 1765–1834) was an ALBANIAN counselor and confidant of Ali Pasha, the Muslim Albanian ruler of Ottoman Epirus.[1][2][3]

Biography

Thanas Vaja was born in Lekël, Tepelenë.[4] He was the older brother of Luka Vaja.[2][3] His name had become notorious because, under Ali's service, he led an attack against the village of Kardhiq, near Gjirokaster, modern southern Albania. As a result of this operation, hundreds of men, women and children were killed.[5] When the Ali pasha was killed by ottomans, Vaja moved to Gjirokastra, in his home.
