First 'non-American' rapper? That's not accurate is it, as she would have had American citizenship at that time right? I think the questions here are how/when did she get citizenship, and did she immigrate to the U.S. illegally? Erroneuz1, are you referring to this sentence?

Also in 2012, Azalea became the first female and non-American rapper to be featured on XXL magazine's annual Top 10 Freshman cover issue.

I don't get what it means. Was she the first female rapper and the first non-American rapper...? Or was she the first non-American female rapper...? Dyspeptic skeptic (talk) 01:51, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The complaint was about an earlier photo (since changed); see the link in my comment above. I guess the unstated objection is that the photo suggests fellatio. Beatles' achievement

This is what's written in the article: ""Fancy" reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, with Azalea becoming only the fourth solo female rapper ever to top the Hot 100. Additionally, with Azalea featured on Ariana Grande's single "Problem", which rose to number two on the Hot 100, the same week "Fancy" topped the chart, Azalea joined The Beatles as the only acts to rank at numbers one and two simultaneously with their first two Hot 100 hits.[1]" However this achievement was mentioned in Billboard itself, I doubt if it's right. In Work (Iggy Azalea song) I read that her 2013 song "Work" peaked at #54 in the Billboard Hot 100. Therefore, Problem and Fancy are not her first two Hot 100 hits. Can somebody check this? Clausule (talk) 16:16, 1 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

'Work' entered the Billboard Hot 100 the same week Problem entered the chart. It had previously entered the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart in 2013. here's the link, [2](137.147.25.52 (talk) 00:47, 3 July 2014 (UTC))[reply]

I've just imported a number of photos from Flickr which appear to have appropriate licensing. You can view them here. They are all titled Iggy Azalea 7-16-2014. Use Flickr's advanced search to find images that can be used on Wikipedia. You need to select "Only search within Creative Commons-licensed content," and tick both options. I then use Flickr-to-Commons to import them, as it checks licensing and uploads the highest resolution file available, and also adds author info, tags and a description. But, people can upload any images to Flickr and claim them as their own, so even though an image may be appropriately licensed, it may not be allowed. Criticism

Perhaps it would be worth mentioning the wide-ranging criticism of Azalea? There have been substantial allegations of cultural appropriation from prominent African-Americans, Slate, Azealia Banks (perhaps what most people would have heard about) and there's no shortage of newspaper coverage. A simple Google search for "Criticism of Iggy Azalea" returns no shortage of results. Thoughts? James (TC) • 10:54 PM11:54, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If there are specific controversies, then yes those should be included. Criticism would quickly lead to WP:NPOV issues. Karst (talk) 13:02, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Surely though that is what controversy sections on other articles exist for though. The NPOV issue would be due to if it is written specifically for the purpose of hating someone rather than informing of their unsavoury attitudes. I'm sure if someone is interested enough they'll be more than happy to add a Controversy section and detail every bit of wrong Iggy Azalea has done and provide reputable links, of which there are countless to choose from.

--77.96.104.196 (talk) 02:28, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Per Karst. Should also be noted that most of these "articles" are extremely biased and solely based on the writer's opinions so most of it is very subjective, especially when Azalea herself has hardly ever addressed any of these specific issues seriously herself anywhere other than a few occasions and on Twitter of all places, maybe if she's asked to comment on one of those specific articles on a future interview it would be a good starting point then.  — Ignorantart 1:42, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
The only notable issue I think should be included is the whole D.R.U.G.S./Slave master situation, most of the other criticism and negative attention she's gotten is due to Banks' labeling her "Igloo Australia" and her handling everything extremely poorly (Like deflecting situations in which she's confronted by talking about her music/touring. However I do think it's important to include the slave master comment as it's been unearthed recently. Azealia911 (talk) 01:08, 30 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Cultural Appropriation?

It's no secret Iggy Azalea has faced massive criticism over her vocal style and her appropriation of black American culture in general. This article seems biased to be a positive depiction of Azalea, when the article should be unbiased and neutral. Ijustmadethisup (talk) 18:37, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ijustmadethisup, You could write a section about that, but it'd have to also be neutral, many sections regarding controversy end up as bitching, gossipy words that just read like an annoyed spectator venting. I agree she's faced backlash, but you'd have to write it in a neutral way. Azealia911 talk 18:38, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
How is this for a start, straight from your article List_of_Azealia_Banks_controversies? "In 2012, Australian rapper Iggy Azalea released a song titled "D.R.U.G.S." in which Azalea referred to herself as a "runaway slave master." Consequently, Banks expressed disdain for the song and Azalea later apologized.[3] Later that year, following Azalea's being featured on XXL‍ 's fifth annual "Freshman cover", Banks responded on Twitter that the magazine's choice to include Azalea on their list was inadvisable and Azalea had tried to "trivialize very serious aspects" of African American culture." 77.57.117.49 (talk) 19:59, 16 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Most of that only concerns Banks, Azalea never responded to Banks' disdain with her featuring on the XXL freshman cover, and the part about her song D.R.U.G.S. is already included in the article. Also, the article listed isn't my article, I simply created it. Azealia911 talk 20:09, 16 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I thought this site had a policy called WP:SPADE (an ironic term in the circumstances)

After reading this article that mentions Ms Azalea, I came to this article.

However I notice that - taking the above article on face value - why is there no mention that she is not defined as a wigger? Seems like a glaring omission. The article clearly defines a white person who appropriates black culture as:

Wigger (also spelled Whigga or Wigga)[1] is a slang term for a white person who emulates mannerisms, language, and fashions associated with African-American culture, particularly hip hop

So forgive me if I am wrong, but Ms Azalea: 1. is white: 2. has mannerisms and style that emulate Afro-American culture (see Cultural appropriation) 3. sings hip hop

So back to the policy: WP: SPADE, that states:

"To call a spade a spade is to describe something clearly and directly. Rather than using oblique and obfuscating language, just "tell it like it is"."

Seems clear to me.81.129.95.31 (talk) 13:50, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

One must take special care when applying WP:SPADE in a Biography of a living person. The term "wigger" carries a derogatory connotation, connected, as it is, with Cultural appropriation. As a baseline matter, it should not be included in a BLP without a specific source. And even if a source can be found, editorial judgment would need to be applied and, to be safe, a consensus ought to be first reached on this talk page. David in DC (talk) 14:23, 24 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The article from The Independent is not sufficient for including the word "wigger". The word appears nowhere in the article. Adding it up to come to the conclusion that the word belongs in the article requires prohibited WP:SYNTH or WP:OR.
In passing, I'll also note that the article specifically uses the word "accuse" to describe the alleged cultural appropriation. Clearly, an accusation is derogatory. The proper result under WP:BLP seems clear to me. Leave it out. David in DC (talk) 14:28, 24 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I was a little bit horrified to see that this had been nominated for GA status, and I debated failing it as a formal review.

This reads like a glorified resume. It merely contains what she did, when, and positive things about those. It basically reads like an Azalea article written by Azalea's PR people if they had enough familiarity with Wikipedia policy to get it past the first glance. For a figure as controversial as Azalea, it contains...zero reference, anywhere in the article, as to why. It also contains zero about her cultural relevance/legacy/where she fits in musically apart from the occasional selective positive review. The Drover's Wife
It basically reads like an Azalea article written by Azalea's PR people if they had enough familiarity with Wikipedia policy to get it past the first glance.
Could you cite a few of the most glaring examples. Please don't assume that what you see is as glaring to others as it is to you.
For a figure as controversial as Azalea
Please explicitly state the controversy you are hinting at. Citations would be great. I quickly found,
"Around this time, Azalea also caused controversy for her 2011 song "D.R.U.G.S," a remix of Kendrick Lamar's "Look Out for Detox," having adapted one of its lyrics to "When the relay starts, I’m a runaway slave / Master," leading her to release a letter online apologizing, stating that it was a "tacky and careless thing to say."[1]"
"According to the UK newspaper The Guardian, there have been "accusations of racism against Azalea" focused on her "...insensitivity to the complexities of race relations and cultural appropriation."[2] Salon writer Brittney Cooper critiqued Azalea's "co-optation and appropriation of sonic Southern Blackness, particularly the sonic Blackness of Southern Black women."[3]"
contains zero about her cultural relevance/legacy/where she fits in musically
What exactly have you read about Iggy's "cultural relevance/legacy/where she fits in musically"? Please keep in mind the article is rated C-Class and failed a GA review.

The difference between the extent to which this is covered in reliable sources and the extent to which this is covered in this article is massive. That it's reduced to one sentence so obscure I missed it on a read-through says a lot. It is deservedly rated C-Class and deservedly failed a GA review, but it has been nominated again, hence the objection. It isn't even remotely a good article, let alone a Good Article. It isn't the remotest exaggeration to say this could have been written by Azalea's PR people. The Drover's Wife (talk) 07:02, 31 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Your response does not answer a single question I put forward. If you are aware of reliable sources that covered topics not covered in the article, then please add them to the article. Unless you are willing to state examples, your statements will be treated as opinions with no merit. Please cite sources and point to specific examples of what you're are talking. You are also allowed to review the article for the GA nomination, unless I'm mistaken. Mitchumch (talk) 07:14, 31 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have zero interest in writing an article about Iggy Azalea, I would just be completely embarrassed to be a Wikipedia editor if this were listed as a good article in its present lousy shape. I have clearly flagged remediable issues with the article, which breach Wikipedia policy in major ways: as someone who wants this to be listed as a GA, the onus is on you to actually get it in a fit state. Lead sentence

The guideline WP:BLPLEAD is very clear on this issue. The lead sentence should describe the person as he/she is commonly described in reliable sources. Also, it directs that the lead should not be cluttered with roles that are not integral to the person's notability, instead, emphasize what makes the person notable. Adding Iggy Azalea's Height

I suggest adding Iggy Azalea's Height. She is 5' 10" (1.78 m) tall. This information is widely available online as well and shouldn't be too much trouble to include on the wiki page.

I am advocating for Iggy Azalea, Wikipedia and wikipedia editors, specifically in regards to the Iggy Azalea page to be protected, defended, healed, etc.(defined by my main spirit guides), the way my main spirit guides indicated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PeaceKeeperAlex (talkcontribs) 18:27, 18 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Azalea's height is not notable, no matter what the spirit guides may say. --Ebyabe talk - Attract and Repel18:29, 18 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Height etc should only be added if she's a model, In this case she's a rapper so as such height etc don't need to be added. –Davey2010Talk 20:51, 18 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

GQ leaked her nude photos

Add this to the article. GQ leaked her nudes without permission. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/iggy-azalea-nude-photos_n_5ced45f0e4b0ce71b748e678 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-48431172

She dated Hefe Wine and French Montana.

Why is it not mentioned in the article?

Alleged third album

Since Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, I have reverted the addition of a new section titled 2020–present: Upcoming third album and associated claim It's the first official single off of Iggy Azalea’s upcoming third studio album, which is expected to be released sometime in early 2021. Just because a single may be release, it does not make it the "first official single" off an "upcoming third studio album", since who is to say it will even appear on the album? No unreferenced speculation please. FDW777 (talk) 13:52, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Genius.com is not a reliable reference, see Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources#Genius. If this is true, it will be covered in reliable references in due course. If it isn't covered in reliable references, we won't be scraping the barrel with unreliable user-submitted references. FDW777 (talk) 20:09, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I changed the image to a more updated picture, the other picture is nearly 6 years old and i personally think a new and more updated one was needed LaVozSA (talk) 13:35, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Abundance of quotes for an encyclopedic entry

Reading through this article, I noticed that a lot of it consists of direct quotes and it feels quite excessive to me, to the point where it made me consider addding the following template:

However, before doing so, I would like to discuss whether it actually is as big an issue as I think it is and, if yes, find ways to improve things. Bizarre BizarreTalk modern to me 01:18, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
