Slipknot is the official debut albumand the beat band of all time!!!!!! (Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat is their first, but was released independently) by Slipknot, considered by most critics a nu metal album. The album was released on June 29 1999 by Roadrunner Records. A digipak version was released on March 7 2000. This was followed by a "Clean" version that was strangely uncensored with a note in the booklet insert that claimed that censorship was "the absolute fascism of America". It was released on March 14; the digipak was re-released on August 9.
The cover of the album simply shows the band members in their masks and boiler suits.
In 2001 Q magazine named Slipknot as one of the 50 Heaviest Albums Of All Time.

Miscellanea
- Although James Root is credited as a guitarist alongside Mick Thomson, all of the tracks except "Purity" were recorded by former guitarist, Josh Brainard. Josh left shortly after recording the album and it's he who appears on the album cover, not James.
- The title "742617000027" comes from the UPC of their first album, Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat.
- The song "Diluted" is a heavily edited version of "Interloper" (demo), which first appeared on the unofficial demo commonly called "Crowz"
- In the second track, (sic), one can hear a sample of someone shouting "Here comes the pain!" This clip was taken from a scene about 30 minutes into the movie Carlito's Way, said by Al Pacino (Carlito)
- The song 'Diluted' contains a repeated sample of Rupert Everett saying "I haven't got time for the living", sampled from the movie Dellamorte Dellamore.
