Tohanu Nou is a village in Zărnești, Brașov County, Romania. Established following a 1762 decree by Maria Theresa of Austria. It was settled by Orthodox believers expelled from Tohan.
Historical records from 1769 document the establishment of the village after the authorities' enforcement of the decree in 1765, led by General Siskovits, resulted in the displacement of Tohan's inhabitants. [1]
In 1779, Ioan Boghici, a philanthropist from Brașov, built a church in Tohanu Nou. This church, adorned with objects and books donated by Boghici, remains a central place of worship.
Tohanu Nou also features a historical school dating back to 1784 and a cultural center and war heroes' monument, revitalized through a partnership with the Zărnești Town Hall.
As of 2021, Tohanu Nou has a population of 1,365
