The 2023 season is Northern United's 1st season in existence as an amateur football club. They participated in the 2023 Merlin Regionals.
On 15 January 2023, Umar Khalish founded the club with the purpose to serve as a platform for players who weren't deemed as good to give them an opportunity to learn and improve. As player-manager, he signed founding players Niq Aqimi on 8 February 2023 and Naufal Nico on 14 February 2023.
On 4 November 2023, Umar announced Clovis Yio and Haris as his stand-in captains.
On 19 December 2023, the club announced a partnership with newly formed club Sengkang District FC.
Season overview
Northern United's season started off with a 6-0 defeat to Sembawang FC but their first televised friendly came under the form of a 20-7 defeat to Vengeance away from home with Farhan Daniel scoring the first goal for the club and Clovis Yio coming off the bench to score 6 goals. A 7-5 defeat to four-men Teck Whye Hounds left much more to be desired. The club made their 7-aside debut at home in a 14-5 defeat to Blacklock FC.
The club participated in their first friendly tournament in the Bishan Tri-Series with a narrow 4-3 defeat to Teck Whye Hounds but their match against Serangoon Belgrade was cancelled. A month later, the club played in their new home against rivals Sengkang Wolves in a 9-6 defeat with debutant Ashvein and Yio scoring a hat trick apiece. They lost to Sembawang FC 3-1 before a short break.
After the break, Northern United played a friendly against Bokana FC to prepare for the 2023 Merlin Regionals as they lost 12-4. The club went on a shocking run in the competition only losing to Teck Whye Hounds and managed to go unbeaten against Maestro Boys, Sembawang United (formally Sengkang Wolves), Hawkguys, and Serangoon Belgrade as they won the competition overall.
The club returned the next month with a 7-5 win against Sengkang District FC in a charity match before losing 11-8 away from home to Black Lions FC. They ended the year with a convincing 11-4 win to Turkey FC.
