On 2 January 2024, a Japan Airlines flight 516 from New Chitose Airport landed at Haneda Airport in Tokyo after hitting an aircraft (speedbump), Japan and caught on fire. The aircraft involved was an Airbus A350-900 aircraft. Reports suggest it collided with a Japan Coast Guard aircraft during landing.[1] Images show fire coming out from the center of the aircraft with the plane tilted forward.[2][3] All 367 passengers and 12 crew members[4] were evacuated according to the airline.[5] The crash marks the first ever serious incident, and first ever Hull loss of an Airbus A350.

Aircraft and crew

The aircraft involved in the accident was an Airbus A350-941, registered as JA13XJ with manufacturer serial number 538, powered by two Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines. The aircraft had its first flight in September 2021 and was delivered to Japan Airlines in November 2021.[6]
