Bengt Wanselius Bergman picture

[edit]

I recently emailed Bengt Wanselius about using the very picture you added to the Bergman article, but he did not respond to me. It's a very nice picture. When did you get permission from him and how did the conversation go (I'd like to know for future reference in requesting permission for such things).

Nothing special. Maybe he just missed your e-mail or something. He replied within 30 minutes for me. I just asked him nicely for his permission to use the picture in question on Wikipedia, a free encyclopedia, and just explained that it was for an article I was writing on there about Ingmar Bergman. I gave him the link and asked if he would like to be attributed copyright or whatever for his work or would be willing to release it into the public domain. Since posting the picture and attribution info, I've e-mailed him again to make sure everything looks alright to him. --Comics 02:56, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I asked if he would release it under the GFDL, I guess that's why he wasn't into it. Having copyright permission isn't quite so useful as having a Free license, but this is better than nothing. Bungopolis 17:46, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I didn't really bother explaining free licenses to him. Most people aren't very tech savvy and really don't understand the ideology behind such things, they just think their work is getting ripped off or whatnot. --Comics 22:06, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Quarto by email

[edit]

Hi Comics, a new mailing list has been set up to distribute news about the Wikimedia foundation, specifically at the moment to publicise Quarto. I saw your name on the quarto talk page requesting a copy by email, and I think this mailing list is how we're going to do it for the moment. It'll be a html email, which I've added to the Quarto talk page m:Talk:WQ. Mailing list is called Foundation-news-l (We also need translators!) Cheers w:User:Cormaggio

Adminship

[edit]

You're a little too inexperienced to be voted in as an admin. I suggest you withdraw your nomination now and try again later, when you have more time and edits under your belt. Andre (talk) 22:27, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Regrettable, but true. Andre (talk) 22:59, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
You seem to be on the right track - avoiding meaingless disputes/edit wars, using edit summaries, assuming good faith et cetera. After a few months and 1,000 edits, if you want, I'll nominate you. freestylefrappe 23:28, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Luke Swenson

[edit]

While I have no problem with the article being deleted, admins closing Afds they've participated in is often considered unorthodox, particularly when they were the nominator. But don't worry, the consensus is in and the article will be deleted; it's only a matter of time. -R. fiend 01:58, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox 2 debate....

[edit]

Hey Comics,

I agree with you on leaving that style of infobox. Personally, I find it helpful and attractive. There is a debate going on on the WikiProject albums page that you may want to check out.

Also, a heads-up... Monicasdude is a very obstinate and, at times, abusive user who feels his contributions are above others' and - believe you me - he will revert the Gentle Giant article again. He actually has an RfC page on him, which you may find helpful: Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Monicasdude. He earned it, trust me.

BGC 22:15, 23 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Your position regardingthe infobox dispute is inconsistent. If, in the absence of consensus, it is inappropriate to change the style from one to the other, that "freeze" should be applied without regard to which style currently exists. It is, to paraphrase your own comment, not your job to instruct other editors to refrain from making edits which bring articles into compliance with existing guidelines, particularly the existing guideline regarding use of album covers. Monicasdude 22:32, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your position perfectly. You're hypocritical. You believe that it's OK for people who agree with your position on infoboxes, which is clearly a minority position, to change the style in one direction, but not OK for those who take the majority position to make changes in the other direction. Don't use "consensus" as an excuse to claim that nobody can make changes you disagree with without your approval. Monicasdude 14:56, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Your opinions aren't Wikipedia policy. In the discussions regarding which albumbox should be used, the preference is clearly for albumbox 1. The applicable template for album cover use indicates that the only generally accepted "fair use" of album covers is for illustration of the album articles themselves. As for hypocrisy, your position is that, in the absence of a consensus, it is acceptable for those who prefer the disputed box to replace the undisputed one, but not vice versa. That is a textbook display of the quality. Monicasdude 18:13, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Monicasdude's at it again....

[edit]

Hi Eric...

A heads up...: [1]

BGC 23:37, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm willing to help - but a warning, he is one stubborn and obstinate editor and this won't be the first time an admin has gotten involved in his case.

BGC 00:23, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"Do you think we should ask for a mediation?" Yes. Actually, he deserves to be banned, really. Talk to JDG. He's been eager to see Monicasdude dealt with as anybody. He'd appreciate your input.

BGC 01:08, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Monicasdude breaks 3RR

[edit]

THREE TIMES - in his obsessive revert frenzy. So, I had to report this. Unfortunately, it appears I did the same - unknowingly of course, but hopefully whichever admin handles this will be understanding of what we have to deal with and pardon me. [2] BGC 18:53, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Things must be getting desperate. It appears Monicasdude is preparing an RfC on me. Laughable... [3] BGC 23:25, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

...

[edit]

I've been the subject of more vandalizing by Monicasdude. I had a discussion with a user of Paul McCartney's Liverpool Oratorio. If you look at the talk page, we came to a consensus, after the three of us reached our 3RR limit. Guess who decided to poke his nose in? Could you please revert it back? Clearly it's to stick it to me, not to back the other user since we both came to a consensus. Oh, and I think starting that Request for mediation is a superb idea and should be instigated - now. BGC 22:04, 31 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hey - are you around? The predator is still at work. Check out his recent reverts on the REM albums. Are you still interested in pursuing further action? BGC 02:27, 8 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Gentle Giant Edits

[edit]

Hi thanks for the welcome, I will be aiming to work similar edits through the rest of the main albums and the few additional I have added. I have been thinking of at least adding a listing for the recent live re3leases, those that were meant if only in part to replace bootleg issues. I will happily leave you to work on the group bio as that is something I know less about. KevinALewis 08:33, 16 November 2005 (GMT)

And, oh yes, the Under Construction (Gentle Giant album) and Under Construction (album) issue was only to avoid a prossible item move for the album Under Construction which I have partly dealt with be adding a Under Construction (disambiguation) page. KevinALewis 08:35, 16 November 2005 (GMT)

Hi, can I refer you to the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Albums reference on Albums I have been trying to keep to eh style apart from using Infobox 2 rather than the basic. And is you will notice the style for reviews is that one used there. Kevinalewis 10:19, 28 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

If it is a persistent vandal, with no useful edits whatsoever and that has been blocked before, as an admin I can block immediately. In your case, you can simlpy add a warning and then report at Wikipedia:Administrator_intervention_against_vandalism ≈ jossi ≈ t@ 22:17, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed this user from WP:AIV for now, they haven't vandalised since the warning you gave, also please do not start with warning at level3 unless the vandal has a history of vandalism, this user has only been active today so a test1 or test2 should have been the first warning. --pgk(talk) 16:15, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, I too get very frustrated when I see a persistant vandal who many have rolled back but not bothered to warn. --pgk(talk) 17:04, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"The late" mentions

[edit]

Well first of all, I was not vandalizing, only improving, and I take great offense to someone who feels that my improvments are the opposite. It is not of good style to add "the late" about people who are dead. It throws the tense off, as Gene Siskel wasn't dead when he reviewed the movies. It also somewhat violates NPOV, as putting "the late" shows a form of respect for the dead subject, which is not appropriate here. And the articles should be releatively stable, as everyone is going to die sooner or later, and just because someone is dead, doesn't mean we have to make a mention of that or put "the late" in an encyclopedia article. I will revert the changes, and I hope you understand that I am improving the articles, and not vandalizing them. 69.209.100.255 23:39, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Playingthefoolcover.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Playingthefoolcover.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 21:40, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Powerandtheglorycover.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Powerandtheglorycover.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. [edit]

Hello Comics,

I hope you’re doing well. You receive this short message because you are a member of the Category:Wikipedians in Ottawa, and I would like to point out that a mailing list for the Ottawa-Gatineau region now exists. Also, the newly formed Ottawa-Gatineau WikiClub might be of interest to you.

Thank you and have a nice day! Benoit Rochon (talk) 19:32, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
