White Heat is the twelfth studio album by singer Dusty Springfield, and eleventh released. It was, unusually, only released in the United States and Canada, Springfield's only record to never be released in her native Britain (until its release there on CD in 2002). It was released so due to a change in record labels; Twentieth Century Fox Records (Springfield's label) was bought and she was switched to the Casablanca Records label in the US, with no distribution in the UK. The sessions for the track Blind Sheep are historic in that they are the last designated sessions for Twentieth Century Fox records in the Musician's Guild Logs. More so than her previous two albums, It Begins Again (1978), and Living Without Your Love (1979), White Heat was a distinct departure from Springfield's pop/soul sound, being closely identified with the New Wave, synth-pop sounds of the early 80's. The album did not chart in North American charts, despite being given very positive reviews by critics.
