Gold Coast City FC

[edit]

When I updated this years participants I added Gold Coast City FC as debuting in 2017. However, they are apparently the same club as Palm Beach Sharks, who have appeared twice. To confuse matters, both Gold Coast City and Palm Beach Sharks competed in the 2017 FFA Cup preliminary rounds. Anyone got an explanation? Umarghdunno (talk) 12:48, 2 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wow this is super confusing. According to this, The newly branded outfit will compete in PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland starting in 2016 and will retain the playing history of Palm Beach SC in the competition - including the status as 2015 Premiers and Grand Final winners. which sounds like the current Gold Coast City has the history of both clubs, though I'm not sure if that extends to the FFA Cup too.
J man708 and Matilda Maniac are probably our most knowledgeable about NPL clubs editors. You guys have any ideas? --SuperJew (talk) 13:18, 2 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Gold Coast City is the NPL club's continuation (I think it has to do with having a more well-known name) and is thus, their third appearance. Palm Beach has been kept for the club within the club, which plays in the Gold Coast league. Funnily enough, I have a contact somewhat within the club, so I can ask him in the next few days to explain it to me in full, and I'll pass on his info here. - J man708 (talk) 09:48, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
EDIT - Also, apparently this is where we currently stand - Source - J man708 (talk) 10:01, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, as I figured. Same club, third appearance. Palm Beach (confusingly) would be at zero, as it's their NPL license which qualified for a third time, regardless of their name. - J man708 (talk) 04:55, 10 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Umarghdunno and J man708: I merged them on the article and inserted a note of explanation. I'd appreciate another pair of eyes having a look and improving the wording if necessary. --SuperJew (talk) 10:18, 10 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Another example that Gold Coast City consider themselves the same club as Palm Beach --SuperJew (talk) 12:04, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Colour coding currently active

[edit]

@Matilda Maniac: I see what you did with the colour coding. My only concern is that it will be very confusing, especially during after the semis, when the final is yet to be played. This table only has the option of Champions and Runner-ups but no Finalist, so what would you do during that time when they are finalists but not yet champion or runner-up? I think we should just update only for teams which have been eliminated from the competition. (maybe add a note on the page to make that clear). --SuperJew (talk) 17:12, 23 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think we should just update teams which have been eliminated from the competition, as long as there is a note on the page to make that clear. Go for it. Matilda Maniac (talk) 09:06, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sorting

[edit]

So presently the default sort is based on 'best result' and then alphabetically. I would think this 2nd phase sort should be changed to appearances. Some clubs such Marconi Stallions, Manley United and South Hobart with 3 appearances are located below clubs making their 1st or 2nd appearance. Seems a bit stupid, especially seeing the page is FFA Cup appearances. I suggest changing to 'best result' > 'appearances' > alphabetically or maybe even by earliest first appearance then finally alphabetically. Xenomorph1984 (talk) 17:54, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Xenomorph1984: I'm not sure if by appearances is fair, as different clubs have different opportunities to qualify (say Northern Territory and Tasmania only get one spot each, while other states get more). Once a club is in the cup it's fair to sort by how well they did. And sorting by earliest appearance seems even odder. --SuperJew (talk) 21:11, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
most equivalent lists would sort by Champions and then by Runners-Up. And hey, just click the sorting icon on any column and voila ! Matilda Maniac (talk) 08:00, 27 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
