PDFedit is an open source PDF editor for Unix-like operating systems. It does not support editing protected or encrypted pdf files or fully Word-like text manipulation, however.

PDFedit GUI is based on Qt 3 toolkit and scripting engine (QSA), so every operation is scriptable. Part of the program is also commandline interface for PDF manipulation. Xpdf is used for low level processing.
