Colcord question
I've heard that the man Blondin carried across Niagara falls on his back was a volunteer and not his manager. Is there anyway we can get a fact check/reference to who that man was? Vote4jr (talk) 17:26, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
- Take a look at the American Heritage article external link that I just added for confirmation. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 18:33, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
Another question, the statement that Blondin retired under the name of Julio DeMasi, is there any confirmation regarding this? This seems like a very outlandish statement and I have suspicions of a joke. Vote4jr (talk) 02:27, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'm glad to see a citation request tag on that, I'm suspicious as well. Let me know if you hear anything back from User talk:67.183.115.214 regarding a source. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 03:57, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I posted on his discussion page, I'll keep you updated as well, its just at my highschool, one of our religion teacher's name
- is Julio Demasi and he tells a story about the Great Blondin, so I think it might be a very clever joke. --68.162.140.26 (talk) 03:38, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Hey, I was wondering who the two men were who died in the scaffolding collapse were? I have looked everywhere and I can't seem to find this information. It is some info that I was supposed to have in a report I am writing. Thanks! Kittykat1000 (talk) 20:39, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
- I got the information about the accident from the Irish Times. There were several reports on the accident, which took place on 23 August 1860, in this newspaper over the following days, and I'm sure the names of those killed appear somewhere there. The paper archives are available online, but you have to pay for it.Hohenloh + 22:19, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
Broken Rope
"2 inches in diameter and 5 inches in circumference" ??? How's the math on that? C=πd says 6.28 circumference. 68.148.233.117 (talk) 23:04, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
- That's exactly how it was described in the newspaper report - Wikipedia references are about verifiability, not truth ;-) Hohenloh + 15:54, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
- If you're rounding to whole numbers, it's certainly possible to have a 2 inch diameter and a 5 inch circumference. 1.7 * π = 5.34. Kaldari (talk) 03:10, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
- It obviously doesn't matter exactly how much the diameter of the rope was. Whether the circumference was 5 in. or 6.28 in., it didn't make a difference to Blondin! JoJaEpp (talk) 06:22, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
Death date
Many sources say he died 19 February 1897, as our article did for some time. Now it's 22 February (sourced). How did the date 19 February ever get into the public record if he still had 3 days to go? -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 03:29, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
