Wikiteam,

Here are the sources that I'm using so far:

Feel free to reference that information when you begin writing the next parts. Modeling our wiki after this Harlem Renaissance as well as this encyclopedia page [1], we might consider making headings along these lines:

  • Development of African-American Community in Chicago's South Side
  • Literature
  • Visual Art
  • Music
  • Notable Figures (although that maybe included in the previous three categories)

Things that we should definitely mention: The influence of The Chicago Defender and other prominent African-American newspapers, the artistic and social consciousness that marks the movement (social realism and socialism, respectively).Magnanimousanimals (talk) 00:42, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to add in some pieces of information from the Trice article that distinguish this from the Harlem Renaissance at some point 5/16. Myrockerchoctaw (talk) 02:32, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am going to add some information on the Development of the African American Community in Chicago's south side this morning (5/16). NUlaxfan (talk) 13:50, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I created the section "Development of African American Community in Chicago" and wrote a couple paragraphs. I am not entirely sure if I'm doing the referencing correctly. I mainly used the Chicago history fair site. There is probably more I can add to this section, and I can also work on the music or visual art sections, depending on what others want to do. I will likely not be able to work on this again until tomorrow morning (Friday, 5/17). NUlaxfan (talk) 14:44, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'll work on the music sectionAllieap (talk) 16:52, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

About to work on the literature section & add in the contrasts to the Harlem RenaissanceMyrockerchoctaw (talk) 21:19, 18 May 2013 (UTC) In addition to working on the literature section, I'm also going to try to streamline all the references so that if the same page is used, it doesn't show up as a separate reference. Additionally, most wikipedia entries seems to include the period before the footnote, so I'm making that consistent throughout as well.Myrockerchoctaw (talk) 21:36, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

All looks great. I added some more wiki links where possible.Magnanimousanimals (talk) 00:46, 22 May 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Magnanimousanimals (talkcontribs) 03:30, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I added in the Visual Arts section. Tried to make the references streamlined, like you did Katherine, but don't think I did it perfectly. Trying to make it so the "pop matters" reference is not listed twice in the references section -- how exactly did you do that for the other ones? NUlaxfan (talk) 15:07, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed the pop matters reference. The link below has the code that you need when you're using a reference more than once--you give it a name the first time you cite it and then use the code and only the name the second time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Referencing_for_beginners#Same_reference_used_more_than_once Myrockerchoctaw (talk) 19:16, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome, thanks for the help Katherine! NUlaxfan (talk) 20:24, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
