The television show South Park is famous among fans for its opening, which went through many stages and all use the same lyrics sung by alternative rock band, Primus.

The First Opening (1997-1999)

The first opening from South Park showed the boys getting on the bus and riding to school with each character singing his part. As the show progressed, the creators added more background elements to the opening (i.e.: starting from the episode Mecha-Streisand, the opening showed the giant robot rising from behind city hall).

Syndicated broadcasts of the series use a variation of this opening sequence with the third opening's remixed theme and background elements of characters and events within Seasons 1-8.

The Second Opening (1999-2001)

The second opening was created for the episode 4th Grade which involved a more fast-paced and remixed theme song. It started with the beginning of the first opening, but as the music progressed, a giant spinning object reading "4th Grade" landed on the boys. The opening also featured rotating computer-generated renderings of the boys and ended with a live-action explosion.

This was the show's shortest-lasting opening.

The Third Opening (2002-2006)

The third opening is the longest lasting opening and the most famous. It includes a remixed version of the South Park theme song, along with clips of the main boys being made in the original way (with construction paper) while singing the lyrics to the song. It also incorporates small clips from episodes of the previous half-season (i.e.: The Season 10b opening will have clips of Season 10a episodes).

Since Kenny was "permanently" dead throughout Season 6, his lyrics in the song were replaced with Timmy singing, "Timmah Timmah Timmah Timmah Timmah Timmah lib-a-lah Timmah!" When Kenny returned at the end of season six, he resumed his spot in the song starting with Season 7 (see Kenny's Lyrics below).

The Fourth Opening (2006-Present)

The fourth opening started with the October 4, 2006 episode, Make Love, Not Warcraft. It samples another of Les Claypool's songs, Whamola, from his album Purple Onion

Kenny's lines are, as of March 21 2007, not known.

Lyrics

Les Claypool: "I'm goin' down to South Park, gonna have myself a time."

Stan and Kyle: "Friendly faces everywhere, humble folks without temptation."

Claypool: "Goin' down to South Park, gonna leave my woes behind."

Cartman: "Ample parking day or night, people shoutin, 'Howdy neighbor!'"

Claypool: "Headin' on down to South Park, gonna see if I can't unwind."

Kenny: [Muffled singing "I like girls with big-ass titties! I like girls with deep vaginas!"] (season 1-3 only)

[Muffled singing "I have got a ten-inch penis,

use your mouth if you want to clean it!"] (Seasons 4 & 5 only)

[Muffled singing "One day I'll be old enough to stick my dick in Britney's butt!" (referring to Britney Spears) (Seasons 7-10a only)

Claypool: "So come on down to South Park and Meet some friends of mine."
