Introduction needed

[edit]

This article needs an introduction for those unfamiliar with the subject matter. I also detected some POV. EdX20 04:52, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's about as neutral as it can be. This rebuilt did cause a great deal of ill feeling among LNER staff and was generally considered vindictive. I will make a start by removing "unfortunate".--John of Paris (talk) 10:09, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Although it's been here since 2007, I notice this is almost entirely a facsimile of the LNER encyclopedia page about this engine. Of course it's possible that the original author was the same, but otherwise this probably ought to be substantially re-written, at least to remove phrases that are exact copies. Right. The whole lot is a copyvio, bar the infobox, the section headings, the refs onward, and the very first sentence
The London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) Thompson Class A1/1 was started in 1945 when a Class A1 (A10) went into the works for rebuilding in to the A1/1.
Some of the LNER Encyclopedia text does not appear in our article, and there's nothing wrong with that. But other than the sentence noted above, every sentence in our article also appears in the LNERE article, mostly word-for-word identical or (on rare occasions) with subtle changes such as "With the intention of improving the A4 design, Thompson drew up ..."→"Thompson had the intention of improving the A4 design, and drew up ...". I would say that since the LNERE is given as an EL, it's us ripping them off, not the other way around. --Redrose64 (talk) 14:58, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
