Vandalism

[edit]

When will whoever's in charge here learn to make UFC event pages semi-protected before the event starts so we don't have to deal with the flood of vandalism that plagues the wiki page of every single UFC event? DaveA2424 (talk) 02:14, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently nobody can not even Sdpdude or HeinzMaster the ones who contribute the most on UFC related pages

For me? I don't know anything I only just combat vandalism Trippy2121 (talk) 02:34, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank god for Cullen he semi protected it let's all thank CullenTrippy2121 (talk) 02:51, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@DaveA2424 and Trippy2121: Wikipedia do not have preemptive for page protection. In another words, we can protect a page until there are multiple editors vandalsied the page, then we can report it to RPP. If there are admin around and working on RPP then the page will be protected and if not we have to wait as most admins resides in US and the UFC events always happen in late Saturday night US time. I understand that is very frustrating, but this is how Wikipedia works. Cassiopeia talk 23:38, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The system is clearly incredibly flawed. "That's how it's always been" or "this is how Wikipedia works" is not an excuse for maintaining flawed systems. Systems can and should be changed in accordance with necessity and common sense. It wouldn't be difficult to automate sports events becoming semi-protected shortly before they start and having that semi-protection removed shortly after they end. It would save everyone a lot of bother and hassle having to deal with all the vandalism. Not doing so because "this is how Wikipedia works" just reeks of laziness. DaveA2424 (talk) 12:47, 11 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
DaveA2424 Wikipedia is an open system and article can be edited by anyone and if the page is protected without the evidence of vandalism, that would means Wikipedia is a close or semi-open system that only certain editors would edited articles in Wikipedia regardless the editing history of the articles. Not every editor agree with all the Wikipedia guidelines and I am one of them as I would like editor to be registered for the vandalism rate would go down. It is not about the issue of laziness nor automation but we could not protect a page with the evidence of mass vandalism. I have requested UFC events articles for protection countless of time when vandalism happened and sometimes have to wait to many hours before the page is protected as no admins were working on RPP page. We just have to report the vandalism at RPP or try to get an admin to protect the page if we know there are online. Stay safe. Cassiopeia talk 00:20, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That's really unfortunate. There has to be a better way. Thanks for the response though, have a nice day. DaveA2424 (talk) 22:20, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The Korean Zombie instead of Jung

[edit]

Hello everyone. I won't start the full discussion here, but will leave it open already. Cassiopeia as usual decided to go against the flow and change the article name. He did something similiar with UFC on ESPN: The Korean Zombie vs. Ige using the same argument here: the UFC page uses Jung instead of TKZ. Obviously it was a poor argument as you can see in this [discussion here]. It's the exact same situation. Unfortunately it happened in other articles related to fighters changing their names. A huge deal was created when Nina Ansaroff became Nina Nunes, but eventually the common sense prevailed and the article was moved despite the user's objection. Just like this time, the user neglected the previous situation and tried to block another article move in Joanne Wood. There's plenty of articles with references to Volkanovski vs. TKZ, but we're still lined up to waste our time in useless discussions. At least this time it will be withing the article's talk page. Gsfelipe94 (talk) 00:17, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Gsfelipe94 As per UFC event page the event name is VOLKANOVSKIV S JUNG see - here and not all Jung fight (as headliner events) are based on TKZ as I have provided you the links before. As mentioned to you on your talk page, I am happy for the name change, but pls provide source to support for WP:verification as per Wikipedia core policy. Once the source is provide, change it as you please. Cassiopeia talk 00:29, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As per today the UFC event page see here changed the event name to "UFC 27 3VOLKANOVSKIVSTHE KOREAN ZOMBIE", so I am ok for the change. Cassiopeia talk 04:27, 9 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
