"Texas Hold 'Em" is a song by American singer and songwriter Beyoncé. It was released on February 11, 2024, through Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records as one of two lead singles from her upcoming eighth studio album Renaissance Act II, scheduled for release on March 29.[1] The song was released alongside "16 Carriages".
Composition
The song was written by Beyoncé herself with Elizabeth Lowell Boland, Megan Bülow and Raphael Saadiq; the production was curated by the singer with Brian Bates and Nathan Ferraro.[2] The song presents country music references with banjo, acoustic guitar and viola.[3][4]
Critical reception
Page six associated the song country music references to "Daddy Lessons" from Beyoncé sixth studio album Lemonade (2016).[5] Chris Willman of Variety also refleced that the song is musically associable to Beyonce's "Daddy Lessons" for its "playful" sound, with "banjo opening gives way to a serious beat, it’s easy to imagine a line-dance taking place".[6]
Ben Sisario of The New York Times wrote that the song "begins with rapid-plucked guitar and moves into a stomping beat".[7] Maria Sherman of The San Diego Union-Tribune described the song as "an uptempo country and western stomp".[8]
