All Party Parliamentary Group

[edit]

Of course Migration Watch UK has provided research for the Cross Party Group on Balanced Migration; they are sister organisations. The Group's website "was created, and is updated and financed by Migrationwatch UK at the request of the Cross Party Group for Balanced Migration." (Source: the Group's website) One is the mouthpiece of the other.

It should be noted that All Party Parliamentary Groups or Associate Parliamentary Groups are informal cross-party groups that have no official status within Parliament. Source www.parliament.co.uk

They should not be confused with Parliamentary Select Committees, which check and report on areas ranging from the work of government departments to economic affairs. The results of these inquiries are public and many require a response from the government. Source www.parliament.co.uk

It is hardly noteworthy that Migration Watch provided material to the Parliamentary Group; one would not really expect it to do otherwise. My concern is that the phrasing of this paragraph creates a perception of authority that is not merited - that the Cross Party Group has some official standing, on a par with a Select Committee. The mention of its (distinguished) co-chairmen seems no more than name-dropping intended to imply a validity and gravity that are not necessarily a consequence. The statement does not reflect the history of criticism of Migration Watch's research, or state what significance the Group has attached to it. In short, there is no point to this paragraph, and, bearing in mind Moonshineblue's editing history, which relates solely to Andrew Green and Migrationwatch, there must be grave doubts as to the neutrality of this entry. It is not, btw, a "responsibility" - again, this smacks of puffery rather than NPOV. Chris Custodiet (talk) 23:08, 7 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
