To be precise, only her late father was Bosniak.

Who gives a flying fu**k? And he could never ever be a "bosniak" because at the time when he was alive, there was no such nation as a "bosniak". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.157.163.7 (talk) 02:50, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Seeing as the word Bosniak was coined in the 1800's, it's entirely possible that he saw himself as such. It's also entirely disingenuous to imply that "muslims by nationality", as they were called in the former Yugoslavia, did not share a culture between themselves separate from the Yugoslav whole, like the Croats, Slovenes, etc. did.

And as a non-Bosniak (as you claim), her father also did well to give his children obviously Bosniak names, Mirsad and Emina being the most readily apparant. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.106.112.67 (talk) 07:20, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"To be precise, only her late father was Bosniak." ... what? so was her mother! She is not from mixed marriage.

Known as?

[edit]

Fancruft, cyrillic, etc.

@78.167.13.31: you don't start cleanup by reverting to a version full of garbage. I know you mean well, but so do I, and I performed a thoughtful (if incomplete) cleanup myself before you. Please don't throw the baby with the bathwater.

Let me address several points of contention:

  • WP:LEAD section should be concise, and present a summary of most important aspects of an article. Therefore, her one-off roles in an Iranian movie or a single award on Croatian MTV do not belong here. They are already covered in the body of the article. The lead section does not have to have references, if it just summarizes referenced content below.
  • She is trully an international star, and should be treated as such. OK, she stems from Serbia, and that should be given appropriate weight, but her ethno-national background is complex. I think my version covers it in a fair and neutral manner. For the same reason, I think that insistence on Cyrillic in the lead and the infobox, which she probably does not use herself, is overly political correctness (towards whom, by the way?), but I don't object too much on its return.
  • Nationality is an ambiguous term: in the West, it normally means "citizenship", and in the Balkans, it is equated with "ethnicity". Since we already have both "citizenship" and "ethnicity" in the infobox, it's best to stray away from a contentious term.
  • The article is ridden with too much detail (WP:FANCRUFT) and side distractions. Weight of her children at birth. She once wrote a song on a festival Foo, performed by Joe Smith, which won the best arrangement award, for whom magazine Bar said... that sort of stuff. I know she is popular, but this is just boring and irrelevant. By all means, return some important stuff if it's inadvertently deleted.
  • Same goes for one-off pompous aliases given by the press: "Srpska diva" etc. Those are not pertinent; she's not widely known under that nickname anywhere.

The article is far from perfect as of now, but please work on a version which is clearly an improvement. Thanks. No such user (talk) 07:29, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
