Genevieve Victoria Kitchen[1] is a British politician serving as Member of Parliament (MP) for Wellingborough since 15 February 2024. She is a member of the Labour Party[2] and was a member of Newham Council from 2018 to 2022.
Early life
The daughter of two Royal Navy veterans,[3] Kitchen grew up in Northamptonshire. She attended Caroline Chisholm School in Northampton[4] and John Hellins Primary School in Towcester, and Kingsbrook Secondary School (now Elizabeth Woodville School) in Roade.[5] She holds a degree from Queen Mary University of London.[6]
Career
Kitchen has been a fundraiser in the charity sector.[vague][7][8] She is also a former councillor in the London Borough of Newham[9] where she represented the Boleyn ward.[10]
In the 2019 general election, Kitchen was the Labour candidate in South Northamptonshire against Andrea Leadsom.[11] In November 2023, she was selected prospective parliamentary candidate for Wellingborough.[12] When the recall petition to remove Peter Bone was successful, she launched her campaign in the 2024 Wellingborough by-election, which she won.[13][14] She was endorsed by the former Conservative Party leader of the local council.[15]
Personal life
Kitchen married her husband Joe in October 2023 and later stated that she had cut short her honeymoon in Suffolk to campaign in the election.[16]
