David Darnell Brown (born March 15, 1981), is an American rapper better known by his stage name, Young Buck. He is a platinum-selling musician and is currently a part of rap group G-Unit and is signed to G-Unit Records.
Biography
Early days
Long before Young Buck appeared on 50 Cent's debut album Get Rich or Die Tryin' and joined what was an upcoming record company G-Unit Records, he started rapping at the age of just 12, and it was only at the age of 14 when he started recording in the studio. However, although he was in a recording studio, he was also out on the street selling drugs in his neighborhood. The older drug dealers then gave him the name of "Young Buck" due to the fact that although he was dealing drugs at an early age he was also making some cash. Brian "Baby" Williams caught Young Buck at the age of 16 having a rap battle and took on the young rapper. It wasn't long before Young Buck left high school and was in a crowded apartment in New Orleans along with the rest of the Cash Money crew.
Moving up
Four years went by with Young Buck behind the scenes helping his crew "securing" cars for Juvenile's video "Ha" and other work. After this, Young Buck headed back home where it wasn't long before were he was in a tight situation. One man came through where Young Buck was dealing drugs and shot the rapper two times. Buck recalled, "Motherfucker come kick in my door, four, five in the morning. I was laying in the middle of the floor. He came standing on top of me with an AK or a Mac something. I ain't had no gun so I got my ass off the floor and ran towards the kitchen. It just so happen one of my homeboys, he was awake, he pushed the guy back up out the door. I got shot twice. One of them damned near blew my arm off and another caught me in my upper leg, in my thigh. I had so much illegal shit in the house at the time I rode around for 45 minutes to an hour before I even went to the hospital. I damned near lost my life from bleeding so much".[1] Young Buck can be quoted to saying this on many freestyles and his website by saying "Everybody wanna know who 50 done signed / And who he is, what he 'bout, where he from, can he rhyme? / Is he real, is he fake, is he true, is he lyin'? / Did this Young Buck really get shot two times?".[2]. Young Buck had also been working hard in the studio by releasing an independent LP with his childhood friend D-Tay called Thuggin' Till The End.
Big break
Brian "Baby" Williams had by this time called Young Buck and invited him back into what was a new group. This would not last long, because after a week, Young Buck left because he felt like he was wasting valuable time.[citation needed] Juvenile offered Young Buck a helping hand by taking Young Buck on a tour with UTP. Here, Young Buck met 50 Cent and his G-Unit group that consisted of Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks at the time. 50 Cent gave Young Buck a feature on his successful debut Get Rich Or Die Tryin'' album on the track "Blood Hound". After this was G-Unit's debut Beg For Mercy album, which went on to sell 4 million copies worldwide. Young Buck then released his debut album, Straight Outta Ca$hville. Young Buck recalls "I got the name fromN.W.A.'s Straight Outta Compton", says Young Buck. "Straight Outta Ca$hville speaks for itself. It tells you my way of living up on to this day. I want the world to get a feel of me, showing them the way I am and the way I get down".[This quote needs a citation] Young Buck also featured on Lloyd Banks' debut and Tony Yayo's debut The Hunger For More and Thoughts Of A Predicate Felon, respectively. Since then, Young Buck also appeared on G-Unit radio mixtapes and on fellow G-Unit artists' albums.[3] Straight Outta Ca$hville has gone platinum and he is set to release his sophomore album titled Buck the World.
To help promote Buck the World, a track has been released called "Hold On", which features fellow G-Unit member 50 Cent. The video can be found on video streaming websites such as YouTube[4] and Young Buck's MySpace. 50 Cent also hit back at Cam'ron's diss track "Curtis" in this video. Thought in the video its not in the original lyrics of the song in Buck the World.
Ca$hville Records
Young Buck recently started his own label, Ca$hville Records. In late 2006/early 2007, West Coast and independent veteran C-Bo signed to the label. Also, in March 2007 it was announced that the Outlawz signed to the label as well. The Outlawz experienced success while their friend and mentor, Tupac Shakur, was still alive and still maintain a loyal fanbase today.
Controversy
April 4, 2007
50 Cent appeared on Hot 97 and said that Young Buck was out of G-Unit for making peace with The Game. 50 Cent's manager says that Young Buck is not out of G-Unit and that it was a April Fools Joke.
