Geoffrey Brooks (born November 9, 1962) is a Professor of Engineering at Swinburne University of Technology, Known for fundamentals of steelmaking[1][2] and non-ferrous metallurgy.[3] His research in these fields has earned him awards from organizations such as the Association for Iron and Steel Technology (AIST),[4] the Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS), and the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3).[5][6]
Background
Brooks was born in Melbourne in 1962. He graduated with a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from RMIT[7] in 1984, completed a Bachelor of Arts (HPS, Media) Swinburne University of Technology in 1989[8] and his PhD in Chemical [9][10][8][11] Engineering from the University of Melbourne[4] in 1994. Brooks was appointed as a Lecturer in Materials Engineering at the University of Wollongong in 1993, where he worked closely with prominent metallurgist Professor Howard Worner on the use of biomass as a reductant in Ironmaking and the fundamentals of Steelmaking with staff at the Port Kembla Steelworks.
