Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests
Appearance
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
If you are here because you want an admin to approve of your new article or your proposed page move, you are in the wrong place.

This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.

the - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

Uncontroversial technical requests
- Super League XXIII (currently a redirect to 2018 Super League season) → 2018 Super League season (move · discuss) – Moving to new page per RM discussion. Need admin assistance to move over the existing redirect. J Mo 101 (talk) 17:27, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- Tabal → Tabal (state) (move · discuss) – "Tabal" was the name of both a region and a state, and the page on the state needs to be renamed to avoid confusion. Antiquistik (talk) 18:53, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- What's the name of the page for the region? Bensci54 (talk) 19:56, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- Revolutionary Communist International → International Marxist Tendency (currently a redirect back to Revolutionary Communist International) (move · discuss) – To reverse a move I made prematurely. The name change to Revolutionary Communist International won't be made officially until June. Wellington Bay (talk) 12:26, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- Muse (source of inspiration) (currently a redirect to Muse (person)) → Muse (person) (move · discuss) – This is a terrible title. The qualifier is meant to distinguish this article about human muses from the article Muses about the Greek goddesses, but "source of inspiration" applies about equally, so it fails in its function. The respective opening sentences are "A muse is a person [...]" and "In ancient Greek religion and mythology, the Muses [...] are the inspirational goddesses [...]", so "(person)" seems the obvious choice for a replacement. 2A02:560:5821:6C00:8927:F475:6FA6:FF53 (talk) 14:57, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- Is this article even necessary? See WP:NOTDICT. 162 etc. (talk) 17:43, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hm. Off the top of my mind, the best reason I can come up with to keep it is that there's Category:Muses, which uses it in its {{cat main}} hatnote et cetera. 2A02:560:5821:6C00:8927:F475:6FA6:FF53 (talk) 18:12, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

Contested technical requests
- Charles Francis O'Connor (currently a redirect to Frank O'Connor (actor, born 1897)) → Frank O'Connor (actor) (currently a redirect instead to Frank O'Connor (disambiguation)) (move · discuss) – When I first created the page, I wasn't familiar with the WP:MIDDLE policy advising that
Adding given names, or their abbreviations, merely for disambiguation purposes (if that format of the name is not commonly used to refer to the person) is not advised
(italics from the policy page), and "Frank O'Connor (actor)" already directed to a different actor named Frank O'Connor. As "Charles Francis O'Connor" is not the common name for this person, after learning about the policy I wanted to bring the page in line with it. I explained the reasons on a talk thread for the other actor O'Connor, moved said O'Connor article to Frank O'Connor (director) (as he was also a director, and Charles Francis wasn't), and replaced relevant wikilinks with "Frank O'Connor (director)" so as to avoid any incorrect piping. Now all that remains is to move Charles Francis O'Connor to Frank O'Connor (actor). P-Makoto (she/her) (talk) 00:02, 20 February 2024 (UTC)- I totally get your logic, but moving to a partially-disambiguated title is almost never an uncontroversial move, and Frank O'Connor (director) is also an actor. This should be moved to Frank O'Connor (actor, born 1897), with Frank O'Connor (actor) going to the disambiguation page. * Pppery * it has begun... 16:44, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- MacFarlan Smith → Veranova (move · discuss) – Company appears to have rebranded. A statement on their website reads "Macfarlan Smith Limited is trading as Veranova in the United Kingdom". MacFarlan Smith should become a redirect to Veranova. 81.187.192.168 (talk) 15:38, 15 February 2024 (UTC) 81.187.192.168 (talk) 15:38, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- Is this the new WP:COMMONNAME? -Kj cheetham (talk) 14:47, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
- Per D&B and Companies House they are still MacFarian Smith, but DBA Veranova. This probably needs further discussion. --Ahecht (TALK

- Ben Morton (politician) → Ben Morton (move · discuss) – Primary topic. Onetwothreeip (talk) 10:19, 17 February 2024 (UTC)
- I've changed this to a disambiguation page for now, it seems preferable to jumping straight from one thing being primary topic to something else being primary topic. Also may be a WP:RECENTISM angle as it looks like this was a reasonably notable footballer back in the 1930s. — Amakuru (talk) 11:59, 17 February 2024 (UTC)
- G. T. Dhungel → Gay Tshering Dhungel (currently a redirect back to G. T. Dhungel) (move · discuss) – WP:COMMONNAME IJohnKennady (talk) 17:00, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- This has been contested here before: https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Requested_moves/Technical_requests&oldid=1207683602 -Kj cheetham (talk) 17:07, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- Civil Service of China (currently a redirect to Civil service of the People's Republic of China) → Civil service of China (currently a redirect instead to Civil service of the People's Republic of China) (move · discuss) – No need to capitalize the second word of the title per WP:LOWERCASE. Amigao (talk) 18:15, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Amigao I am going to move this back to it's original title of Civil Service of the People's Republic of China, but with "service" in lowercase, since it was moved without discussion last week and an earlier move request on the talk page didn't find consensus for shortening "People's Republic of China" to just "China" in the title. Please open a new move request on the talk page if you still want to move the page to Civil service of China. --Ahecht (TALK
