Roster of Teams

[edit]

Thanks for adding the list of teams!

The definitive book on the USFL, The $3 League, would be a good reference. Rlquall 15:38, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

But why did it fold?

[edit]

I don't think the article in the current state is completely clear on what lead to the sudden decision to fold the league. --208.204.155.241 15:59, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another pro wrestler, Steve "Dr. Death" Williams, played for the New Jersey Generals prior to becoming a "World Champion" in the Universal Wrestling Federation, run by Bill Watts.

The Pittsburgh Maulers never finished with a record of 7-11. Also, they were only in the league for one season in 1984 when their record was 3-15.

This page is way too long. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Standleylake40 (talkcontribs) 06:26, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To reiterate what was said in the edit summary: Per WP:Citing sources -- External links should not be used in abundance throughout the article, they should be used via inline citations. When did this article get a "B" rating? I'm not sure it should have that right now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.249.87.68 (talk) 11:41, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Splitting

[edit]

This article should be split into 2013 and 1982 sections rather than just having a section labelled revival. As the league comes closer to its 2013 revival, and once that time comes, the 2013 league will need far more than just a section of an article about a league 30 years ago.

We should wait and see if the new USFL actually comes to fruition before splitting off a separate article, imo. There have been several other spring/summer football leagues announced over the past few years that never kicked off at all. Zeng8r (talk) 00:38, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, and then we can go with 'USFL (2013-present)'. I have a shiny loonie here that says the new USFL never gets off the ground..... Dbrodbeck (talk) 03:10, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

USFL Pages Merger Proposal

[edit]

Hello all - with FOX Sports settling their lawsuit with the original owners of the USFL earlier this year (2023) after gaining the League's copyrights the year prior, the current iteration of the USFL is now being counted as an official continuation of the original USFL, with team histories and records carrying over, and the League's past is now being officially acknowledged in broadcasts, social media posts, merchandising, and more. I believe that in order to minimize confusion to newer fans and to create a more accurate resource, all of the 2022 USFL pages for active teams and the League's main page itself should be merged with the original USFL pages as they are now, in essence, one in the same, making the "original" USFL officially active. With that said, all of the prior USFL Playoffs and Championships are now officially counted as well, so even in the modern day, the Michigan Panthers still have their 1983 Championship, the Stars have their two titles from 1984-85, etc. Finally, all of the revived franchises (who still carry the exact names and lineages of the originals) are still listed as separate entities, which bugs me to no end. I've talked with several other USFL fans online, and they'd all like to see the same thing as well, so if this could please be approved and worked on across the board, that would be greatly appreciated.

PAGES THAT NEED A MERGER:

United States Football League and United States Football League (2022)

Houston Gamblers and Houston Gamblers (2022)

Birmingham Stallions and Birmingham Stallions (2022)

Tampa Bay Bandits and Tampa Bay Bandits (2022)

Portland Breakers and New Orleans Breakers (2022)

Memphis Showboats and Memphis Showboats (2023)

New Jersey Generals and New Jersey Generals (2022)

Pittsburgh Maulers and Pittsburgh Maulers (2022)

Philadelphia/Baltimore Stars and Philadelphia Stars (2022)

Michigan Panthers and Michigan Panthers (2022)

These franchise's pages would be updated to show that they are a direct continuation of their original 1984 counterparts as one united franchise history instead of a separate entity, and all of their team records and history would be updated as such as they are now active (excluding Tampa Bay).

All other franchises would be listed as dormant/inactive, or folded depending on if they are brought back in future seasons or not.

Also, a new article should be created for the USFL Championship Game, and the history of the USFL's Championship Games should go from 1983-85, then jump to the 2022 season and onward as that's when the League was revived and the lineage picks up. Bgilbert02 (talk) 21:13, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

United States Football LeagueUnited States Football League (1983–85) – There was a new league from 2022 to 2023, which had the same name. Re-naming this page, would help further clarify that fact. Note for example - we have International Hockey League (1945–2001). -- GoodDay (talk) 15:56, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I just explained why we should. Could you 'maybe' elaborate on your opposition? GoodDay (talk) 16:42, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
By re-naming this page, we can 'remove' a part of the hatnote at the top of the page. GoodDay (talk) 20:57, 14 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
