Princess Nor Ehsani (born 15 October 1935) or sometimes spelled Noor Ehsani,[2][3] is the only child and daughter of Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin and Queen Tengku Raihani.[4]
Additionally, she is also a granddaughter of Sultan Alaeddin Sulaiman Shah, niece to both Sultans Omar Ali Saifuddien III of Brunei (paternal) and Hisamuddin Alam Shah of Selangor (maternal) as well as an aunt (first cousin once removed) to Sultan Sharafuddin cum paternal first cousin to Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and also a maternal first cousin to Sultan Salahuddin. Out of four siblings, she is the only surviving gahara (pure descendants of the sultan) of Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin.[5]
Involvement in the Girl Guides movement
Noor Ehsani agreed to take on the role of State Commissioner in 1964, and the Girl Guide Movement reopened after a British trainer paid a visit. In order to further aid in the promotion of Guiding throughout the nation, the Bruneian government established the position of Organising Commissioner in the State Education Department in 1966. This position's duties included setting up Guide companies and Brownie packs in schools. Nine new Brownie packs and fourteen new Guide companies have been formed by 1972.[6]
Personal life
Born in Klang, Selangor, Malaysia (then located in the Federated Malay States) on 15 October 1935 as the only daughter of Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin of Brunei and his consort, Tengku Raihani of Selangor.[7] Currently residing in Kampong Sungai Hanching, Jalan Muara, Bandar Seri Begawan, Princess Nor Ehsani is married to Tengku Pengiran bin Tengku Abdul Aziz, her cousin and grandson of Sultan Alaeddin Sulaiman Shah. Following the demise of Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin in 1950, Tengku Ampuan Raihani and Princess Nor Ehsani temporarily established themselves in Kuching, Sarawak, prior to departing from their abode and relocating to her native Selangor.[8] For the New Year's and Hari Raya Puasa celebrations, Nor Ehsani, whose electric suppluy was switched off in February 1967, sojourned herself to Kuala Lumpur alongside with her husband and three sons.[9]
Duties
The Brunei monarchy had rules that stated she was unfit to take her father's reign. The younger brother of the late Sultan, Omar Ali Saifuddien III, was given the title of Sultan because all of Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin's children were female.[5] She accompanies Queen Saleha in official occasions held in Brunei. Due to confusion by the Registration Department, her husband is sometimes known as Tengku Pengiran Abdul Aziz.[8] On 5 August 2007, she gave permission to attend the Royal Berkshire Hall award presentation event for the 2007 Persatuan Pertiwi Quran Reading Competition.[10]
Issue
Tengku Putera Pawzy, Tengku Putera Amir Farouk and Tengku Putera Muhammad Harris Fadizllah are her three children with her spouse.[11][5]
